Was talking to a friend today, he's a Leicester fan so they are playing in the CS against Man City.
Anyway, we were talking about the fact that the team that wins the Championship and gets promoted to the Prem doesn't have a Wembley day out, unlike the teams that make the play off final. And those teams were inferior to the team that won it.
So he was saying the CS would be better if it was the first league game of the season, between the team that won the Championship and the PL winners. So Man City v Norwich. 3 points to the winners as usual. 1 point each for a draw.
And the FA Cup winners, if they didn't finish in the top 4, have a play off game against the team who finished 4th for the final CL spot.
I quite like both those ideas.

Presumably this replaces one of the two usual league fixtures between the two sides? Otherwise it's patently unfair to award points for it.48k said:

I doubt there has ever been a team that won the Championship that would prefer a Wembley day out to automatic promotion.
That's true, but the fact remains that players in the play off final get to play at Wembley, yet the players who win the league don't, and may never get the chance. Blib said:
I like the idea. However, financially, one club would lose receipts for a home match. Including season tickets, sponsorship, concessions, corporate boxes, food, drink and all of the other revenue streams from one of only 18 in total home league games.
Mmm....good point. Although the fans, sponsers, etc would know at the end of the season they won the PL that their first home game of the next season would be at Wembley. Where would the other game be played as Wembley would be classed as a neutral ground?
Ask any player or supporter would they rather have home advantage or play an away game at Wembley that could possibly cost them relegation?
Teams that win their league and teams that avoid/beat relegation usually have had a good or great home record for that season.

The PL champions would give up home advantage. The opening game of the season would be PL Champs V Championship winners. So this season, Man City v Norwich. Norwich get a day at Wembley, plus the benefit of playing Man City at a neutral venue instead of the Etihad. Man City lose home advantage for 1 game, but that would be the price of winning the league. I'd still fancy Man City to win. All other games unaffected, so Norwich would play Man City later in the season at Carrow Rd.
