Can anybody answer why England sing the national anthem “God save the Queen” but the other home nations sing their own anthems. Should England sing something else or should all the home nations sing “God save the Queen”
That is the English National Anthem isn't it? Do we have another? towser44 said:

That is the English National Anthem isn't it? Do we have another? The problem with our national anthem is that it's not inclusive. Most anthems are about a countries spectacular geography, it's great achievements, it's military victories. Ours is about God & the queen, which doesn't leave much for patriotic atheist republicans . Also, the lyrics in one of the verses talks of crushing rebellious Scots, so you can't expect them to sing an anthem that includes that.
It isn't hard to have an anthem that everyone feels happy to sign. Personally, I think the English football team should sing Football's Coming Home.

They should just play the tune like in F1 . Why do a lot of footballists have to sing a song before a soccer game?
Players have been belting out anthems since forever and it never helped them play any better as you would have seen the correlation between neck and eye bulging intensity and results.
The more dog like ones instantly launch into a yellow card tackle within 5 seconds of kick off to please the queen or something.

I vow to thee my country?
Both rousing
Going back to when Don Revie was manager back in the mid-70's I think he had a go at encouraging the crowd to sing Land of Hope and Glory before matches; like most of his rein as England manager it didn't go well and, even if it had caught on, it would probably be banned nowadays.... I vow to thee my country?
