Can't see one started so thought I'd kick off (arf!).....

Gareth Southgate names his 33-man England squad which will be trimmed down to 23 players by June 1st.

Think one or two players are very lucky to be in there and a couple are unlucky not to be, particularly Patrick Bamford whose season's figures are more impressive than either DCL or Watkins, both of whom I'd take as well to be honest.

To be honest I think it would have been a long shot for Bamford to make the final 26 but personally I think he's a bit unfortunate not to make the 33 announced today; aside from the goals he scores he contributes enormously to the general team play at Leeds and could have done something similar for England in my view.

Delighted to see Ben White included though; he was terrific for Leeds in the Championship and has confirmed that potential for Brighton in the PL this season. Not sure he'll make the final 26 this time but IMO he'll be a full England international before too long and once there I think he'll be in the squad - and possibly the first 11 - for several years to come.

Seems very heavy at the back and front and light in the middle

Yes although I've always regarded Grealish as an attacking midfielder but he's been included in the provisional squad as a forward!

Grealish can be wherever it takes to get him on the pitch for me. Don't particularly like the guy but got to admit he is the first player to really excite me when he gets on the ball since Gazza in his heyday.

Yeah I thought that too - the back & front lines to be heavily reduced I think with perhaps 1 midfielder being culled (IMHO that would be Lingard - sorry West Ham fans :-))

He's not our player at the moment!

Claret & blue notwithstanding, I think he'll go as he brings big tournament experience to a relatively young squad & having only played regularly since the beginning of the year a potential degree of freshness.

That being said he was quiet(ish) in WH's last handful of games.

Agreed - he falls over a bit too easily for my liking but a real talent nevertheless.

We do have quite a lot of talent in the attacking midfield and footballing defenders department but we do need that Nobby Styles and Jack Charlton character too and I can't see who that is at the moment.

I know we take 26 to the tournament, but I'm a bit worried about the number of currently injured or very recently recovered players in the 33 - and that's before the Europa and Champions League finals to come.
Maguire, Henderson, Rice, Phillips and Grealish all have question marks over how match fit they really are.
Maguire especially worries me, since Southgate admits he's got no idea about Maguire's fitness.
Still, at least Dier is omitted, so it's not all bad.

Feel like a bit of a doom monger but part of me wants us to fail catastrophically just so Southgate fks off.

I've never been as apathetic towards England as I have been with him at the helm.

We've actually got some exciting young players coming through for the first time in 20 years and I don't want him to fk it up.

Henderson, Phillips and Rice are the holding deep midfielders, the rest will provide the attacking threat

Seems mad to not include Bamford, been robbed with some dodgy VAR decisions too so tally would be higher than 17. Don't rate Mings either, think Konsa is much better.

What are Bamfords impressive figures out of interest? I always thought he was criticised for wasting too many chances / having a very low conversion rate ?

+1

I have a bet on from last year at 13/1. Think they could surprise a few.
