And others involved in the game... from the rules the rest of us do our best to adhere to? Whilst many of us do the most we can to stay at home and protect ourselves and others football people appear to be carrying on as usual (granted without spectators) still playing, hugging, kissing, and totally ignoring social distancing and ppe... I’m guessing they’re exempt from what the rest of us are up against.

It would appear so.

Perhaps they are tested quite a lot more frequently than the general public?

Ultra fit young men, who are tested several times a week and provide entertainment to millions as one of the few highlights in this horrible situation.
Yes, they are exempt, quite rightly.

It's what happens when you are young, famous and loaded. Rules are for others to follow..

Get that, so is the F1 circus, but the F1 folk pretty much adhere to wearing masks and social distancing where practicable... why is football here in the UK not adhering to government guidance? It appears matches are now being cancelled because so many players are now testing positive.. why oh why has the football fraternity considered themselves not subject to the restrictions the rest of us are? Why?

Moderator who moved this... I wanted a general view not just football people... guess you didn’t get that... maybe you should consider your understanding of what ‘moderating’ means...

I don't think the "football fraternity' chose to to not be subject to restrictions. The government chose to make them not subject to restrictions with certain precautions in place (such as regular testing etc etc).

I'm not sure that a few hundred regularly tested athletes is really what we need to be focussing on. Getting the general public to follow the rules is much more important.

Totally agree with this, I’ve had C19, and my eldest daughter works in A&E and my GF is a care worker. We are all very conscious of observing safe practices. Sadly many are not. I was simply staggered at footballers hugging and kissing.

Are you seriously comparing F1, where 1 person races in a car with a pit crew that predominantly wear face coverings anyway, to a 22 man close contact team sport?

Sounds like a anti-football rant to me.

The Lounge may have been best?

Recent snippets don’t look good for games continuing... highest test results by quite far, Derby having to field under 18s/23s due to first team rates being so high, Aston Villa having a breakout ahead of today’s game with Liverpool, Southampton’s game is off...

I think Spurs and may be one/some other(s) got awarded ties last year where opposition teams could not field a team, but more recently Man City and Fulham have had games postponed.

As others note, sport is an outlet for the locked down population to enjoy at a time when it’s hard to do much else. I can see the logic in keeping it going where possible for the wider benefits. But it’s not usual with empty stadiums and some players seemingly not helping themselves, especially in an era where everything ends up on social media.

Wouldn’t surprise me if a further ban occurs unless the numbers start to ease off ASAP.

The recent rise of cases in football simply falls inline with higher percentage of positive cases in the general population, doesn't mean they are anymore reckless now than they have been in the past.

Footballers are viewed as role models by huge swathes of the population. So if they ignore the rules... So do those they influence.

Footballers are always making up stupid celebratory dances - they're worse than fortnite avatars - so pick one that minimises the group hugging and frotage. And give the impression of following the same rules as everyone else.

not sure what F1s minimal covid spec travelling circus is but I'd wager its still well over 1,000, with a lot of work where distancing isn't possible so yes "bubbles" are paramount.

Don't care a jot for football but I have a soul so I guess I'll let you lot enjoy your brief slices of quasi normality without my damnation.

The players do seem to be forgetting a few basic rules.

Hugging etc after a goal has definitely gone back to what it was. I see managers & coaches routinely shaking hands where they didn’t before.

Spitting & snotting has definitely improved, but again has crept slowly back.

If any positives come out of this pandemic the habit players have of spitting & snotting not happening as much would be a bonus. You’d think they’d be told not to do this wouldn’t you, but hey ho.
