Is fan attendance for SOME teams unfair?
Discussion
This season, teams in tier 2 are allowing up to 4000 fans to attend
Teams in tier 3 are playing behind closed doors.
Home advantage has been virtually wiped out when the match is played with no fans.
When there are fans, the crowd can surely be a 12th man and give the home team an advantage and provide that final push to win.
Is this really a level and fair playing field this season?
(Obviously this would make no difference to us as there’s so many empty seats anyway)

With only 4 teams in the Premier league allowed fans I am surprised they have not stopped it. Would be interesting to see what would happen if Liverhampton were in Tier 3 !!!
It's just made it a double asterisk season. Last season was asterisk'd because 3/4 was played normally then the last quarter was played behind closed doors. This season started behind closed doors and will probably end up back to normal, so also has an asterisk. But then like you say we've got this additional change whereby during each round some teams can have fans in and some can't. The integrity of the competition has been ruined as its not a fair and level playing field for all participant across the whole 38 round season.
What concerns me more is clubs not using all of the available space around the ground to maximise the distance between the 2000 fans. I know this will affect the atmosphere created but this is all about getting fans back as safely as possible so that, hopefully as long as infections don't increase dramatically through fans attending, more fans can be gradually introduced. Last night the kop looked a bit too full IMO even though there were loads of empty seats. Then try stopping 2000 scousers jumping on each other after a last minute winner, impossible !!

If you have the same number of fans spread across more than one stand it means you need the appropriate stewards, security, turnstile operators, cleaning, food+beverage, covid testers etc. for the additional stands so much more staff but the same number of customers. I think it's simply the case that it's unviable with such low numbers of fans to have more than one stand open, and far easier to manage. It’s not fair but not much in football is fair. It’s a business so teams will look for any advantage they can have like having more financial clout .
Right now I think any joy which can be given to fans should be taken even if it impacts my team and whist not logical for the conpetition , I’m thinking about how broader society needs that joy.

Exactly. Life isn't fair. Chelsea is in Tier 3 so no fans, not fair. But we do have a gazillionaire owner so can by superstar players that Burnley cannot, which isn't fair either. This is the VAR mentality, let's make everything fair. Nope, let's not, let's keep football as it's always been, completely unfair and often hugely unjust. That's one of the things that's good about it.

Correct, football is, and has always been, about favourites and underdogs. Where would the FA cup be without the traditional giant killing games to remember. I have seen my team in the glamour 70's, crap 80's, rebuilding 90's and the current money-inspired success time. Each period has given me enjoyment in their own way. A victory in the 80's against a top side meant a great deal more than it would now as any victory is kind of expected and I do miss that feeling that say a Burnley fan gets through beating City or a draw at Liverpool.
As you say Twig, football isn't fair but as fans we all get our own victories albeit at different levels.

Is it fair that 2 teams who are neck and neck for the title but one has the advantage of home support and score in the 90th minute? No wonder Jose wasn’t happy!
As someone said earlier, double * this season for me!
Man City fans moaning about the injustice of football As someone said earlier, double * this season for me!

I doubt there'll be any tier 2 areas come the new year anyway.
