It seems that more stringent lockdown is coming, and as case numbers rise, including amongst players.... isn’t it inevitable that the PL will face another winter suspension of games.... or possibly worse....?

I’ve no faith that the season won’t be further impacted. I think we will see it suspended by mid November....

They should end the season now and either leave the league standings as they are, or work out an average of points per game. Either way I'm happy biggrin

I don't see it being able to carry on with internationals and european games being played too, just too much mixing, and is it all really necessary.

Premier league should be able to go ahead as usual.

I can't imagine the football league lasting a whole season with no fans without 75% going into liquidation.

The football league should have never gone ahead to be honest, they rely on gate receipts a lot more than the prem does.

Is the outcome necessary, no, not really, but, forgetting the overpaid footballers, what about all the other staff all the clubs employ? If the teams don't play, the TV income will need refunding. Arsenal have already made 55 staff redundant, what if the others follow suit, how many more unemployed is that? Like it or not, the industry directly employs lots of people and that's not including the indirect jobs it supports (gambling, coach companies, airlines to fly the teams around etc etc)

I think Internationals should defintely be postponed, England's at least. Our players have proved to the world they can't stick to safeguarding rules. Plus playing friendlies in the current climate is borderline irresponsible.

Agreed that international games have to be postponed. There is no justification in friendlies.

It's a shame games are going to be influenced with players missing.

Will clubs be honest about test results and close contacts if they know it could see them forfeit a game?

It’s all over the paper’s websites and has been since early evening. I think the government Tier announcement tomorrow will mean it’s forced on them anyway.

Agreed - was there not a Covid pandemic when he took the job?! It's not as if this can be a surprise to him.

He just wants a period of time that’s match free so he can drill his defensive approach into the team. It means he won’t drop loads of points while they’re learning his soul destroying football.

It looks like it’s not happening now with last nights statement, although I wonder how much of that is down to the rumour that the PL don’t have a Plan B yet again.

PL doing everything they can to avoid a break, because they only care about money.

Games through all the leagues are dropping like nine pins now with the effect of this more transmissible strain, and with the news that its effectively adding up 0.7 to the R number, means that PL and EFL will have to put a brake on the season within a few days I would think.......although Govt might be forced into a national lockdown more strict than the one in April pretty soon, so perhaps PL are waiting to have to be forced into it?

That's exactly his agenda.

Looking at him he's prime Covid fodder too but obviously not worried enough to stay retired.

Does the announcement made today about a new national lockdown have any impact on this? Can’t remember if the suspension of football was before the last full lockdown, or as a result of it.
