Junior Agogo dies aged 40

Back in 2004 when my old team Yeovil Town were beginning their ascent up the Football League, we played Rovers at their place one Tuesday night. Local derby with fiery, feisty tackles galore.... Rovers went down to ten men after Dave Savage conked Gavin Williams on the back of his head. From the resulting free kick, Phil Jevons received an elbow to the face from Steve Elliott, a second red and Rovers were down to nine men.

They quickly went 2-0 down but then Junior Agogo got going and in arguably one of the best performances I've ever seen from a lower league striker, single handedly dragged his side back into the game. He set up the first, scored a superb second and as the final whistle went, Rovers were the only team likely to win despite being two players short.

He was outstanding that night, later went on to play for Ghana in the AFCON and do well for them. Had a stroke three or four years back, very sad. He'll be missed by many.

Glover, had a business contact (long dead now) who was a Bristol Rovers fan. I remember him talking about that match, and Junior's performance. One of the best nights of his life he said!

As a Chelsea fan, it's easy to think it terms of Champion's League etc. for great nights, forgetting that for many fans, a 2-2 against Yeovil on a Tuesday night when you were 0-2 down with 9 men can be right up there.

Didn't know he'd had a stroke. Very sad. But leaves behind some great memories.

Sounds like a corker. In May 97, a week before Chelsea played in the cup final, I went with my Brighton supporting brother to Hereford v Brighton, bottom of league 2 clash, final day of the season, to decide who went down to the Conference. Brighton needed a point and got it in a 1-1 draw. That's one of my stand out matches, just amazing. A lot's changed for Brighton since that day.
