Not known for their grammar on that forumIt's all terribly sad but symptomatic of the way football is going. Plenty of other lower league clubs are hanging on by their teeth. I can't see any way back for Bury. Bolton fielded 7 Academy players in a recent match in order to fulfil their obligations.
We've already effectively got 2 tiers in the Premier League. There are the stinking rich, a second tier of clubs which can balance the books, which would include several Championship teams, and then at least 50 other clubs that have a worse financial situation than they're prepared to admit. The days are gone when people supported their local team whatever their quality - it's all about glamour and success. That, plus deluded club owners and chairmen who expect Champions League status from investing £5m. Look what happened to Leeds.
I can see a day when they are only 2 professional leagues left. Everything else will be like the 1950s again. Semi-pro players and divisional leagues to save on travel costs. If it helps save old established clubs then I'm all for it, but it's time people got realistic.

I've been following this story for a while and listened to various interviews on the radio and I think part of the problem is the current chairman is the sort of person who argues that black is white (and does). He is either on the spectrum or needs to seek professional help for his mental health. I don't know if he has a long standing issue or if his behaviour is a symptom of his current predicament, but it's no wonder the situation at the Club is going from bad to worse when these behaviours are at the centre of everything.

This reflects the change in society to a world based on grabbing what you can and fk the community.
Said without a hint of irony, too. Seems they're very quickly forgetting how they got where they are today.I did like the suggestion they could buy Gigg Lane. Guess it would at least mean they owned a stadium, even if it wasn't their own.

Fan ownership on a sustainable model is entirely possible as is being shown by Exeter City among others, but it needs a supporter base pulling together in the same direction and a level of acceptance that overnight success and Premiership conquering isn't going to happen.
If the supporter base isn't able to get behind some form of fan ownership is there really much point in the club existing? Most football teams should be considered a club for the entertainment of the fans rather than a business which will return a profit. I very much doubt that people who follow Bury do so with the expectation they will ever see their side in the Prem. Would they really get less pleasure supporting their team if it was fan owned, possibly semi-pro and bouncing around the lower divisions?

Just listened to this on air row between 1 of the players and the owner. God knows what Dale's motivations are but he doesn't seem to have much empathy for his players when 1 of them talks about losing his house if the club closes down. Sad state of affairs.

Is it right he bought the club for a pound?
Maybe his endgame is to wait for someone to come and buy the club off for upwards of half a million and then fk off somewhere warm? He’s gambling that someone won’t let this major part of the community vanish and will have to pay what he wants. He might be about to be very disappointed.
If that doesn’t happen, I hope he’s got a good pair of running shoes because a lot of people will be looking for him and it won’t be to shake his hand.

It said Bury received a bid that would have given them stability, but the chairman said he could get better. Let’s hope that bid will still stand and save them at the eleventh hour
Would this be the one by Norman Smurthwaite, ex Port Vale owner. Port Vale fans didn't think much of him. Seeing as the he EFL gave him Karl Oyston to be his mentor when he took over Port Vale, its not hard to see why.nicanary said:

I thought 25 years ago that the third and fourth divisions (as I still regard them) should be divided into north and south as they used to be - higher attendances and reduced travel costs makes those clubs far more sustainable We've already effectively got 2 tiers in the Premier League. Something needs to happen but let’s face it the income lower league clubs isn’t there anymore.
League teams are not buying players as much as they did. The premiership is so elite now it’s a completely different world.

Could be a saviour in the offing, let’s hope soI'm a big Bury fan and as much as it pains me to say it, if we go bust we deserve it. Terribly managed by a series of dreamer chairmen and fickle supporters who turn a blind eye to the obvious fact that you can't go giving £5k+ per week contracts to the likes of Jermaine Beckford when your average gate is just over 3k.
With regards to Steve Dale. I would highly recommend giving this incredibly well researched thread regarding his dubious (at best) business practices a read: http://blueandamber.proboards.com/thread/98437/buc...

I guess it is incumbent on those of us who support PL teams to go and support our local teams every now and then. In many ways, it may be more enjoyable/like when we first started watching football.
Off to consult the fixture lists of my local lower league clubs ...
