Managing a Kids Team
Discussion
Is anyone managing, co-managing (or has experience) of managing a kids football team?
As a parent I started with my son last year when he joined an U9 team. The second season in and he's doing well and I'm co-managing the team.
There are issues .
Is it normal at U9 (now U10) level for the kids to be a bit headless and unruly or should they be a bit more disciplined?

From my recollection of U9 teams there was 20 kids surrounding the ball and kicking everyone to get to it...the goalies looked bored and all of a sudden this mass of humanity went off towards a goal. I swear i never saw the all for 10 minutes once. It looked like a ball of tubefix in a fish tank
Great fun though

There's a few of us on here that coach at grassroots. There's a thread dedicated to it. As a parent I started with my son last year when he joined an U9 team. The second season in and he's doing well and I'm co-managing the team.

Q - Are they having fun? If the answer is yes, you're doing it right.
Forget discipline at U10. I find that the players drift off when they became a bit bored. Don't expect too much from them. Make sure that your sessions are enjoyable, there's loads of great material out there.
I attended a 3 hour CPD session at Northwich Vics a couple of years ago. Something the UEFA B coach said stuck with me and that is that if you give even 14 year old academy level kids 5 instructions to carry out, you can expect them to get 1 of them right.
