Euro 2020 - England Team
Discussion
So it's not coming home, but for me England have surpassed my expectations this World Cup, and Southgate has done well in such a short space of time to change mentality, and the culture within the squad. Not meaning to be negative, but I do think we still had square pegs in round holes, and were a little naive at times, but I was not going to criticize all the time we were progressing, but I think now is the time to have that discussion! Not criticize but discuss.
I am a Spurs fan - and was surrounded by England fans complaining about Dele Alli being in the team and his performance. I couldn't disagree. He has to play as the number 10, or not pick him. He does not offer anything as a left hand side midfielder. Henderson (not my favourite player) but he excelled at this WC, and it was no surprise to see him taken off (knackered) as he was the only true midfielder in the team. Alli, Lingard, Sterling, have all at times done well for me, but none are midfielders. Nor is Harry Kane. Needs to be up front!
I'm not complaining - but am looking forward. It is March 2019, and qualifiying has begun for the Euros. Assuming all fit, and form similar to last season, what would we do differently with the team?
For me, Pickford, Trippier, Maguire, Stones, Walker, Henderson, and Kane have all earned the right to start for England.
I would add Alli as the number 10.
I would replace Young (Rose did not do a lot for me, hopefully Luke Shaw will come on next season? or Bertrand?)
I would give Lingard a start again - I like his attitude, and hope he continues to get game time with Man Utd, and improve
I would try and find a creative midfielder to play alongside Henderson. Jonjo Shelvey? Loftus-Cheek continues to improve? Not sure who, but felt this was our biggest weakness.
Aside from Young (I assume he will retire), Sterling would still be around the squad from the starting 11 from yesterday. So all in all from what I saw I would replace only 2 players, and change formation a bit. I'd call that a success for what we/I have learned n the WC about England.

Winks, Ox, Lallana, Sessegnon should all get a look in.
Too early to pass judgement on Winks or Sessegnon, but I don't see what Ox or Lallana can offer which is any different to the current squad. The problem (and no disrespect to the current squad) is that we don't have a truly world class midfielder, say like Modric, who can orchestrate the play and create those kinds of chances.Zetec-S said:

Some good suggestions above with some of the players - forgot about seesegnon and winks (doh!).
Agree with the modric/eriksen comment.
