Eh dear BBC, male commentators for male football.....
Discussion
And female commentators for female football please, yep, an unpopular view, let's hope she's coloured as well!
What's this world coming too? , are lefties going to have women in mens teams next, men in women's teams? And when Ronaldo scored just now i couldn't wait to hear what high pitched squeak would come out to celebrate it, and i was suitably disappointed in the complete anti-climax her female voice gave the excitement of a world cup goal, it's a joke!
At least it's not Claire chuffing Balding!

After decades of male dominated commentary it obviously feels a bit odd to start with, but once you (quickly) get used to it a female commentator is no better or worse than a male one. What makes someone like Jacqui Oatley less qualified than someone like John Motson, Guy Mowbray or Clive Tyldesley for example?

I thought all this crap would have died out when Gabby Yorath (Logan) hit the screens 20 years ago. Steeped in football, and knows just as much about the game as any bloke, and more than most. Yet will still get this fking sexist bullst.
fking grow up.
But she doesn't get the abuse because she's good at it. fking grow up.
Unlike the pausing squeaky voiced woman you're defending in the other thread

If someone doesn't like (Jacqui Oatley's) commentary then that's up to them, but to whinge about how women commentators are crap and it should only be male commentators is bks. There are a few crap male commentators around as well...

It would be nice if the BBC also placed male commentators in positions normally held by women. Just to demonstrate how inclusive they are, like. Did'nt hear many male voices commentating during the very excellent women's hockey final at the last Olympics... .
But Jonathan Pearce does the women's world cup.Zetec-S said:

Yep like the sexist bullst some of the feminists were coming out with when Phil Neville got the lionesses job. "Ohhhh he doesn't have any experience in the woman's game, he shouldn't have got the job". Football is football, regardless of which sex you are. Sexism when it suits.fking grow up.
But as for the female commentator, quite a few are in a agreement her voice is dreadful. It's not the content of what she says (most of us moan about Lawrenson and Hoddle etc with their content), although I did hear she said "Porto" on a few occasions instead of "Portugal".
