Brian Clough - best manager to ever manage in England?
Discussion
Took Derby from 2nd division to 1st, and won the league.
Took Forest, a nothing team, from relegation danger in 2nd division to win tne league and european cup twice.
Competing with very good liverpool teams and a very good Hamburg side in a european final.
Clough (with Taylor) for my money are above Shankley, Fergy, etc.
Their acheivements are greater?

Alf Ramsey, because he is the only person to have won the World Cup.Took Forest, a nothing team, from relegation danger in 2nd division to win tne league and european cup twice.

Forest were promoted to League one (finished third in
League Two). And won the title in their first year in the top flight....

You watched the Damned United over the weekend too then?
His achievements were certainly the most extraordinary, to do what he did with the clubs he did it with could not have been done by any other manager imo, However fergie because of his longevity would just shade it for me.
Cloughie certainly was one of a kind though and the biggest travesty in English football is that he was never awarded the top job.

Forest had already been in Div 1 several times before winning the league They were certainly in Div 1 in 1962 as Spurs beat them 9-2 ( i was there)
The only team to win it at the first attempt in Div 1 was Ipswich Town in 1962 ( Ramsey was the manager)

Ofcourse Brian Clough was great manager but the best manager in the world was/is SAF.
They both won the European Cup the same number of times.... 19 trophies in 9 years, or to put it another way , one item of silverware every 26 matches.
To think he followed Shanks as well, which at the time was a more poisoned chalice than the one Moyes collected.
Never bettered, SAF managed one in every 48 games.
Although, I would have loved Clough at Liverpool. A great man, up there with the best.

He didn't win the World Cup did he?
Sir AR was the only one that did so by a small process of elimination.... he is the best there was because no one else got to win it.
Not only that but he got a 3rd place in the UEFA Cup in 1968 which was matched by Terry Venables in 1996.
Now obviously if the header had stated *NEVER* instead of *EVER* you might have a point but one that is probably invalid.
So yes I read it right.
