Sad news only 59. Cyrille is the second of Big Ron’s ‘Three Degrees’ to pass, after Laurie Cunningham, only Brendan Batson now remains. When they played together in 1978 it was the first time a top-flight club had regularly fielded three black players.
I’m old enough to remember their 5-3 win at Old Trafford and even the fans booing black players https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bdqre2b3inQ
And his goal of the season https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0Pf0wHuw6AU

From the BBC's Phil Nulty:
'Regis was a gentle man away from football but such was his threat on the field, particularly when subjected to heavy physical attentions from opponents, that opposing managers used to specifically instruct their players not to upset him or annoy him in any way as the results could be devastating.'

Wow, watched him at highfield road so many times growing up and met him on a couple of occasions.

Very sad news.

There's only one Cyrille Regis!

Very sorry to hear the news. Fair to say Cyrille stood out in the 1970's but for me, it was for all the right reasons, tremendous player with a thunderous shot on him.

RIP Cyrille; met him only twice but a real gentleman, and a pioneer.

Yes no age at all

76-77 was the year I got into football.
Mad about the game and seeing him at Hayes Town was an absolute joy - powerful presence on the pitch but a real gentleman off it. Regis and Hughes gone before their time.

Top man and one I got to meet personally many times. My buddy used to live next door to Brendan Batson in the seventies, and we used to have some great nights. RIP big man

A great player for the Baggies who was also welcomed at Molineux for a season or two in the twilight of his career!

Yes a great tribute. And a touching moment.

Dion Dublin had a tear his eye and so did I.
