Astounding .....

The FA are forcing Wembley FC to change their name; a club that has been in existence for over 70 years ..... and ironically based in Wembley.

There's a petition running to ask the FA to drop this absurd request. Would be really great if we can get as many as possible to support smile

I've read the petition but can' see any links or examples of communications from the FA asking them to change their name. Would be nice to be able to view the reason for the petition.

Can't find anything about the name change either, but there is this in the news ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42442290

The chairman of non-league Wembley FC says they may be bankrupted because of a trademark dispute with the Football Association over the club's logo.

Brian Gumm claims he is being "railroaded" after the European Union's Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) ruled in the FA's favour.

English football's governing body had complained that Wembley FC's badge may be confused with Wembley Stadium.

The FA said they must act to enforce their intellectual property.

There’s a really simple solution to this.

As I see it, the FA must pursue this to avoid anyone else taking the mick with the Wembley name. That’s fine, I get that, however the end result means an incredibly costly (for the club) rebranding for Wembley FC. which clearly isn’t helping anyone.

So how about the FA proceed as normal, but then simply pay all costs of WFC’s rebranding for them? Can’t be more than a few grand and will be peanuts compared to what they’ve likely spent on legal fees, and that way they still protect their IP whilst also coming across as the good guys for a change.

Or is that too easy?

I'm guessing they don't want to change their name. Money isn't their complaint here.
