Cannot say that I blame him.

Sure he never always set the pitch alight when playing, but his record will always stand. The players around him rarely exceeded themselves in tournaments either, so always laying the blame at his feet seemed unfair to me.

He's done his bit. England's top scorer of all time....

Time to pass the mantle on and enjoy what's left of his playing career at Everton. smile

Fantastic player in his prime, and although struggled along with the team at international level records speak for themselves.

With another kid on the way, and not starting 11 you can understand why he pulled the plug. Also it means he can watch England fail at the WC again from a sun lounger rather than the bench.

It makes a lot of sense and allows him to concentrate on Everton and a name beginning with "K" for No 4.

Rooney had so much talent and was for some years in the "world class" category. After a great start for England, he has been just OK scoring goals, but not always performing in all of the big games like the really great names do.
Cannot fault his record but I always wonder if he could have been truly up there with the Messi/Ronaldo/Zlatan's of the world? I feel he lost his way a bit whilst still being a cut above other England players. He deserves to enjoy his Everton time
