Dubious Goals panel
Discussion
Watching the Spurs game earlier & Kane gets his hat-trick with a tame shot that takes a wicked deflection & wrong foots the 'keeper. Now, I'm sorry, but if I was a professional striker & had to claim a goal like that that would have otherwise been sat on by the 'keeper to stop it as mine I'd be disappointed in myself. Kane has got a bag full of goals so why accept these 'dubious' goals just because it was on target in the first place?
Kane doesn't get to decide whether to accept the goal or not. He doesn't get offered the chance to turn it down. The current rules say if the original shot is on target, then a deflection doesn't the goal away from the attacker. Which may be embarrassment for Kane if the original shot would never have beaten the keeper, but it's probably a relief for the defender who gets to avoid an own goal against his record.
This stuff may end up being quite important. When scouts are recommending potential players to their club to consider, part of the pitch will be "he's scored 20 in 50 appearances" or whatever. Or a manager might say "I'm not going to look at him, I've looked up his stats and he scored 3 own goals last season."
