I lived in Borough of Sutton for 21 years, now only 3 miles away.

If "we" score might hear the roar...ears

Yes, good game ,they haven't capitulated and lost by a cricket score.

Hitting the bar being a highlight.

I missed the second goal when I needed a pee.

The yellows flushed away....

A good way to end this thread.

As Sun Bets had sponsored the team for that game as well, could they be in bother too?

I wish my team (Watford) played like that against the big boys. Really impressed with Sutton's work rate and commitment.

I can see why he might be in trouble for it. Probably did it with good intentions but when the betting company on your shirt was trying to get people to spend money on the possibility of you doing it, the conflict of interest is obvious

Maybe he can do media work for Greggs or something.

So if a company sets odds of you doing something during a professional match you can't do it?

  1. piegate on twitter is blowing up right now.
I personally don't see the problem

so betting companies control peoples lives now?

if there was a betting company that had odds on a player to get married then is he then forbidden from legally arranging a marriage or telling anyone, forcing him to arrange it anonymously etc etc otherwise it's 'insider trading'

The issue arises when it's something you wouldn't normally do around or during a game - well you can't bet on it yourself anyway as a professional footballer, but if you indicate to others you will do it so they make a bet then yes, obviously that's dodgy.

Apparently Sun Bet have tweeted they paid out a five figure sum on this bet, so I guess that makes it a bit more than a bit of fun as I said earlier, but there you go, what to expect these days I suppose. Still blame the betting company though, wtf were they expecting putting on that kind of bet, publicising it and not capping the amount people could put on it. Obviously they meant it as a joke, but it serves them right.

Shame for the guy, if it was just naivety.

but why though?
I think if there was an element of skill involved such as if the bet was 'can the goalkeeper complete a rubix cube under 16 seconds during half time" then no one would be complaining if he told his friends "the jokes on them, I've actually been practicing for years and it'll be easy"

Most of the time I would agree that it was a bit of a laugh & no harm done but Sun Bets have announced that someone has won a "five figure amount" on this. If that's true, I would imagine that Mr Roly Poly will be in serious trouble.

However I would agree that Pukka, Greggs and Fray Bentos will all be knocking on his door to get a signature as we speak. Maybe they'll pay his legal fees too....
