Why do football matches start at 7.45 pm ?
Discussion
Entirely for commercial, television rights and advertising revenue rights. And it Fits neatly into a two and a half hour slot, pre match build up from half past seven, post match analysis finishes at ten just in time for the news, with enough room to allow for any possible delay and stoppage time.
If the match isn't in tv it I will be more likely to start at a normal time.

Is it also strange to anyone else that European games on TV here also kick off at 7:45/8:00 UK time, even though that's 8:45/9:00 local time?
It is odd. I went to see PSG v Marseilles a couple of years ago and the game didn't finish until about 11pm on a Sunday eve. Loads of young kids there too. Then they have to get home. Don't they have school in the morning. fttm said:
Why are 6 Nations starting at 10mins to the hour ? Assuming it's bending over for the advertisers , bloody stupid idea .( Full rant mode needs Trudeau mentioned so this is a half hearted whinge).
You also have to bear in mind when the following TV programme is due to start (especially if it's a big audience one). Work back from there with how long the game will last plus 10-15 minutes for analysis and there's your kick off time! For instance, midweek Premier League games all appear to kick off at 19:45, unless they are televised and then it's 20:00. The game will finish at around 21:45 (90 mins plus 15 mins half time), leaving time for a quick analysis so that viewers can catch the programme of choice at 22:00.

Midweek games in La Liga have kicked off at 11pm and midnight in the past.
That sounds a bit late, but I suppose that it fits with the culture of southern European countries.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
