Seems criminal really, but our local stadium has stood empty for the past 5 years. No-one's been prepared to take it on. It only had about 15 years worth of football use and is a much better facility than most lower / non league clubs have got.

The news came through yesterday and I happened to be passing today so had a last look and took this photo for old time's sake. The guys in hi-viz jackets were already circling with their barricades and signs to cordon it off ready for the bulldozers. So that's that then, I don't suppose many folk will miss it.

That's awful to hear, especially given it's relatively new.

Darlington had a similar threat when they built their huge stadium and ended up folding. It stood empty for ages!

If you want a waste of time and money story ,Wimbledon.

Demolish Plough lane stadium as they've moved to MK.

Build estate of flats on it.

AFC Wimbledon want a proper home.

Wimbledon banger/dog track stadium next door to be demolished to build a football ground.

I guess we might see more of this as many teams no longer own their own stadia. Oxford United, for instance, have been negotiating for months over the purchase of their stadium, but seem to have reached a stalemate and are now looking at options of building a new one. Which would mean the Kassam would become redundant, and would probably be demolished too.

DId they go bust? I must have missed that one.

When I was playing I had a couple of teammates sign there and they were paying big money at the time and were well known for having premier league standard facilities at league 2 level.
