Eight red cards....
Discussion
Some on the football forum might know I'm also secretary for a small Step 6 club between Bristol and Bath, Oldland. Today, we went to Malmesbury for a Boxing Day game against a side that is new to the league.
The match didn't finish; it was abandoned with three minutes to go at 1-1 after Malmesbury had their fifth player sent off, four of which were for violent conduct. Their manager/assistant was also sent off and my team also had two sent off, both for retaliation after being the victim of terrible challenges. We had equalised when the game was 8 v 10 but obviously the ref had no alternative but to abandon it after he sent off two Malmesbury players after this for kicking an Oldland player who fought back.
Probably the worst of all of it (and there's a question of possible racist abuse too) was that when the first red card was issued for a foul on a 17-year-old lad in midfield, he was injured in the tackle. An official got on the PA system and started chanting "Let him die, let him die, let him die!" as he was being treated.... . The club announcer constantly incited their band of noisy, drunk fans throughout the match in a display that belonged to the Dark Ages.
Can't ever remember seeing that many red cards in a match before.

Ref's preliminary report came through tonight. Somehow, lost in the (red) mist was the fact that there was four yellow cards given to MV as well. So that makes five red and four yellow from the thirteen players that actually made an appearance.
We are now thinking that this has to be some sort of record for British football. I know a ref recently sent off 36 people in a South American Div 5 game but in this country, the most I can see is five.
