It's never going to be £600k per week after tax.

All the other reports are around £300-350k. I've no idea how he will manage to survive on that little.

If a club is daft (rich) enough to pay that kind of money you can hardly blame Bale for accepting it.

It's a short career, one badly timed tackle could end it at any time.

I think he's worth every penny. American Psycho was so good, I'd be happy to see him paid doubles.

I saw £600 before tax, £350 after.

Crazy.

If Ashley Cole hears about this he might nearly crash another Bentley.

I doubt it. Ashley Cole is right at the end of his career whereas Bale is only 24 or whatever. I think AC would fully expect GB to earn far more than him.

Ashley Cole's gripe was that he was "only" being given £55K a week (when he'd previously been promised a higher figure) whereas players that hadn't come thru the ranks at Arsenal and had been bought from other clubs were earning far more. At a time when Cole was considered to be one of the best players in his position in the world. Many of the players earning more than him were not as good.

Cole got and still gets a lot of stick over this because he was still being offered £55K a week, which is a fortune to most of us. But the figure isn't that relevant. Why was he being underpaid?

And he clearly was being underpaid. Because he told them to stuff it, went elsewhere for far more money, won loads of trophies whilst the team he left won fk all for years, and continued to play for England, winning over 100 caps and, unlike many other players, never underperforming for England.

Arsenal were trying to take advantage of Cole because he had come thru the ranks at the club and loved the club. They didn't think he would leave even though they were clearly underpaying him.

True, but it has become football folk law. Ashley Cole, the greedy, money grabbing footballer. All because he wanted to earn the same as colleagues less capable than himself.
