And we go again..... (previous thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... )
Gadgetmac's rules for the new Predictathon...
"I’ve had a look at the spreadsheet, read the rules on page 1 and had a chat with GarryK and my goodness this is some work and for what is well below minimum wage. Garry did such a good job that he’s set the bar far too high for anybody else to follow hence the lack of a rush to fill the vacancy I reckon. Now the bits you might not like and that would be fair enough.
My first initiative is to reduce this back to a more manageable/compact workload for me this season and for the next person to take on next season. 32 players is 32 opportunities for mistakes with the need for recalcs and re-doing the table and other bits and pieces and that’s just too much work for me. Here’s my ideas although I don’t think I want to take it on unless the workload is reduced or is significantly reducing.
I propose (and If I am to take it on I would want) to pare the league down from 32 last season to next season being 22. This season will be transitional in terms of the number of competitors but the maximum will be 25 and less is preferable. There is some natural wastage, Hornetrider and The Champers have resigned and Glenred, Red Trident, Mopey and nascarrules seem to have lost interest completely and so I deem them to have committed harikari. A-List Celebs is out but I’m told Lawro is a fixture so OK. That brings the number of players down to 25 for this season. Anybody else who wishes to resign from this coming season please say so sooner rather than later and that will help in my aim to reach 22. I would further reduce the numbers by eliminating or relegating the bottom 3 players at the end of this coming season. Relegation should sharpen the mind. There would be no return for those relegated in season 2017/18 and no newcomers in order to stabilise the numbers at 22. Thereafter those relegated can apply to rejoin after 1 season out and would get priority over newcomers. Obviously there will be no newcomers this season unless lots more people resign.
I don’t have the time for cup competitions – can somebody else take this on if you all want to continue with that? For inclusivity please keep any cup competitions within this thread.
I can only post at night and not whilst I’m working during the day so please bear that in mind if you have any questions for me.
I’m on holiday in November for 3 weeks so I can’t update the tables over that period but I’d still post the fixtures to forecast before buggering off. Likewise Christmas will not see much posting from me except for the fixtures for everyone.
Small amendments to the rules on Page 1 of this thread would be
There will be no 4-4 draws for those who don’t post – it will be zero points that weekend. Being beaten by somebody who didn’t even bother to post at all isn’t fair. Likewise if you miss a match by only predicting 9 of the ten games the 10th match will be a zero-point-match for you. 4 cumulative no-shows across the season without prior notice and you are gone not 4 in a row as before.
Likewise Mark Lawrenson’s forecasts can be posted by someone else each week in order to help with the workload. If his scores aren’t posted in any given week he’ll get 0 points that weekend and if this doesn’t happen for 4 weeks then he too is out just like any other player. If you all want him in the league you have to take responsibility for him.
The rules state that so called comedy predictions are outlawed and I can see why so 3-0 to West Ham every week no longer sneaks in under the radar Mr h67 ;-)
Gizmo’s are also gone as keeping track of them is an unnecessary task. I cannot forget to publish the fixtures each week so it’s only fair that everyone else cannot forget to forecast them and if you do then that’s one of your 4 no-shows used.
That’s my first thoughts and if they are agreed to then I am minded to MAYBE proceed. I am still going to chew the cud on this for a few days more before putting pen to paper as I am wary. As Garry did before I would rigidly adhere to these new rules with no exceptions.
Can I have your thoughts please.
PS Even this post is the longest I've ever posted so I do hope that's not an omen. :-( "

I'd love to take part again but since I finished in the relegation spots I'll step out if you need to get the numbers down.
There is no compunction for you to leave CIE and at the moment I'm not culling anyone, with the possible exception of a certain east ender . Who knows you might win it next season. Your decision entirely but I'll need a definite yes or no.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
