It seems so but of course there are a lot more information channels than there were.

Are there any statistics on the top flight?

Goalkeepers are getting taller with each generation but the goal stays the same size.

We had Costel Pantilimon in goal at Sunderland, the tallest player in the league, but he was crap because he couldn't get down to the low balls, so size isn't always a bonus.

The goalkeeper still has to guess right, and save it but I suppose alot of work is done in the week reviewing teams penalty takers and trying to gauge what side they go. When you have alot of video clips at your finger tips it can help.

There was a study recently looking at the chances of a goalkeeper saving a penalty, and in summary it was generally not possible for a goalkeeper, assuming they don't move too far too early, to save a penalty that was sufficiently close to the post. In other words, if a penalty taker places it correctly, they will always score.

Sadly of course, goalkeepers do move early (the modern phenomenon seems to be jumping out a few yards rather than moving sideways) and players aren't capable of always placing the ball in the right place.

Missing a penalty is different thing entirely. If a professional footballer is not able to hit the target than there is something wrong.

Keepers are allowed to move along the line, not off it though

Exactly right. My job is mainly admin and paperwork. Sometimes, if filling in a form, I make an error. But I have never missed the form and written on my desk.

Indeed, I am well aware of Law 14, and my original post was a bit ambiguous/badly written. I meant they seem to jump right out instead of starting from a position slightly off the line.

Most referees are content to let this go.
