Just read about this, I had no idea how influential he had been, I thought he'd just won a couple of lower league titles with Coventry. RIP, what a great man.

Yes, he had many areas of influence, modern football owes a lot to what he did in the past.

A character and also very clever, enthusiastic and modern thinking. Top football person.

Hope you are sorting out heaven's football now big man.

Motson had some nice stories on Five Live earlier. The bloke was way ahead of his time.

Wasn't afraid to say what he thought and ruffle a few feathers.

Sad day.

Yes indeed, bit like Muhammad Ali. getting old is a tough road to follow for the person and their folks frown

A true legend. There are few who've had such an impact on the game in so many capacities across such an extended time period. Not everyone's cup of tea but I've always admired his like of stirring the pot too.

Sad news but he had a good innings and it's probably for the best given reports of his condition in recent years.

I wonder if you did a poll of, say 25-80 year olds, if there'd be a more recognised football figure across the generations?

Wasn't he a "car guy"?

I'm sure that I'd read that he owned an Interceptor.

Anyway RIP
