269 goals in 257 games for Real
3 hat tricks in his last 4 games
Scored in Reals last 14 home matches.

And his figures at International and United are none too shabby.

Have we ever seen a better player?

Probably not, best player in the world, a better allround player than Messi and most probably best ever. (all IMHO ;-) ofcourse)

Best in the world at the moment.
Not sure what he can't do.
Can head. Take free kicks. Take penaltys. Unreal turn of pace with the ball.
Will be still scoring at 32/33. I love Messi but i'm unsure if he will at that age.

He can't, almost single handedly carry his country to 2 World Cup finals

I'm going to upset a few people now, but I think Messi is over rated.

He has been surrounded by good players for a lot of his career, that helps flatter. Much the same could be said for Ronaldo, but I think he is the real deal.

How many penalties has he scored ? i would imagine it's a fair few.

Wonderful player though & i agree he's the best there is at the moment.

I'm a Messi fan, but in the grand scheme of things, they are both incredible players and it's great to have them both playing in one generation as I think it spurs them on.

I think Messi has a better balance than CR but it's a close call between the 2 of them

Messi is a great player whose abilities are accentuated in the Barca team. He, Xavi, & Iniesta have an almost telepathic understanding. They seem to have eyes in the backs of their heads and can find one another without looking. They are able to predict one another's movements so well that they pass the ball to the place their teammate will be, not where he currently is. Would Messi look quite the same player without his amigos around him? Possibly not.

Ronaldo would be a great player in any team, in any era. He can dominate games with his skill, athleticism and work rate. He can dominate opponents with his speed and strength. He is incredibly fit, consistent and professional, and unlike Maradona, Best and Gascoigne he is dedicated to getting the most out of his gifts.

If I could choose any player of the last 30 years to play for a Derby, it would be Cristiano Ronaldo.

His record of goals shows just how good he is. I love to watch him every time he gets the ball you feel something will happen, and generally does. I wish he would come back to the premiership

The best players will always be surrounded by other good players though. You simply won't get one playing for Barnsley.

Ronaldo also consistently delivered in the Premiere league, still holds the record for goals scored so it can't be levelled that he can only do it in la liga.

smile Messi has done well with the Argentina side but he has got Di Maria, Higuain, Mascherano, Zabaleta all behind him.
Ronaldo is fighting a losing battle with Portugal and the only half decent player he has with him is Pepe and he is a full on hot head.

Messi will come good when Suarez starts playing for Barcelona. He will have that extra space that he thrives on(but doesn't need) and the link up between the 2 will be unreal.

Messi and Ronaldo are two
of the greatest players to play the game IMHO, Forget Pele and Maradona.

Messi for me all day long. Although Cristiano runs him close which is an achievement for him in itself.

Ronaldo for me. He has shown he can deliver in the Premier League and now La Liga. Messi is a fantastic player but has only played in La Liga and unknown quantity in any other league.

I also think there achievements are a little flattering. Outside of Barca, R Madrid, A Madrid the rest of the teams are pretty poor and you can see why they regularly get turned over 4/5 nil against the big 3.

Villarreal
Espanyol
Valencia
Seville
Real sociadad.
Deportivo.

Plus the teams you mention.

I'd say any of those and probably more would comfortably hold there own in the Premiere.

The same English teams qualify for the Champions League almost every year and at least half the table are in a relegation scrap until the last couple of games.

I reckon half the teams in the Prem would struggle in La Liga.

Still that's another argument.

Messi has been on another planet since the age of 21/22, it's only in the last 3 or 4 years Ronaldo has been managing to get to that same level.

As for La Liga being an inferior league, that's just complete bks. Maybe 10 years ago yes, but the top 10 teams in la Liga would be more then a match for the top 10 teams in the prem.

Surely Ronaldo has been at the top of his tree for a lot longer than that. He was outstanding from 2005 to 2009 god United so that's 9 years, scoring lots and winning umpteen awards too and I agree about La Liga. More than a match.

Ronaldo is the better player, but people, and other players, LIKE Messi because he's a ridiculously nice guy. And let's be honest, Ronaldo is a ..

Tremendous to have them both in the same generation though.
