FFS, all this means is that a token person will be interviewed, and not given the job. Quotas for job positions? Jeez Louise.

Good enough, get the job. The end.
The Rooney rule doesn't stop that.According to Jason Roberts on 606 yesterday, 25% of british footballers are from ethnic minorities, but only 2% of management/coaching jobs are held by people from ethnic minorities.
Whether that's because they simply don't apply for the jobs or because of a racial bias in the selection process, is difficult to determine. JR had the opinion that many black players don't pursue management careers because they think (rightly or wrongly) they won't get the jobs.
There's a long history of racism in football, and I don't think you can blame people who experienced racism as players for supposing they might experience racism if they became coaches or managers.
They were talking about this on 606 yesterday, the muppet they had on was using Paul Ince as an example of how racist all those clubs are. Newsflash - he doesn't get any jobs because he's a st manager.
No one would ever want to go back to the days of monkey chants and bananas being thrown on the pitch but I just don't see how this would work. Say Fergie retires the day after the ruling comes in - can anybody think of a suitable "minority" candidate to replace him?

Les Ferdinand was on Goals on Sunday this morning bleating on that he wasn't going to do his badges because there was no point. I'm sorry but if that is the attitude of potential black managers it's no wonder they aren't in management. It's like their own form of discrimination, against themselves!

Yep, and Chris Kamara made the valid point that most club chairmen know who they want before they even sack their existing manager.
I think this is the main purpose of the rule, it requires Chairman to actually stop for a moment, remove the short sighted specs and look at a wider selection of possible candidates than just the one person. It also argues that the interview experience when done properly is good for all parties.
Football people are so reluctant to change, very conservative and reactionary in their thinking, this is a very small step.

Looking further afield? What on earth does that have to do with ethnic minorities? This rule isn't just for the premier league either. For ethnic minorities to come into management, they have to take the tests, and all that jazz, and get on the ladder. All the managers have to do it, so if ethnics aren't doing that, what use is a stupid quota rule? It also argues that the interview experience when done properly is good for all parties.

As someone said earlier, the percentage of ethnics playing in the league is 25%... I presume they'll be working on lowering this, to encourage more white folks to get in the game, and mirror the percentage of whites in the country?
It's a stupid rule, to placate the mouth breathers who make a living from ethnic issues.

What has any of that got to do with having a token minority to tick the boxes? It also argues that the interview experience when done properly is good for all parties.

As long as quotas don't come in. Nothing like a bit of racist discrimination to make sure the figures look good.
So it works in America that they waste time interviewing the token people but they still give the job to the best person which is someone else?
Nope you lost me... if someone wants the job they go for it, it doesnt not matter the colour of their skin, but to be told that the club must interview them... fk me I bet that makes them feel special??
Because of a special ruling they are there not on merit but due to a ruling that means they have to be interviewed and even if they were there on merit, they wouldnt be 100% certain about it..
Fantastic way to really do a stty idea.

Works OK in NFL
Don't get me wrong, I believe the best must get the job in all circumstances, all I saying is I think this kind of rule can help encourage more players (of all backgrounds) into management.
Hopefully English managers will be included on the list at Big Four Clubs....
I don't quite get anyones thought process if they think positive discrimination is a good thing.Don't get me wrong, I believe the best must get the job in all circumstances, all I saying is I think this kind of rule can help encourage more players (of all backgrounds) into management.

Do you think anyone who has been selected on their ethnic background to have an interview will be looked at favourably. Preferential treatment should never occur, be it nepotism or ethnicity. I am a fan of meritocracy, not discrimination.
