I think I'd rather have Ollie Watkins on from the start with Toney on in tandem late on. Palmer for Foden is another serious consideration. Dutch have been quite ragged, suspect if there's going to be a goal-fest match on our journey, this will be the one.
After the games yesterday I don't see a goal fest happening.

I can see another 1-1 at full time, or possibly 0-0, and wouldn't put it past the pair of them to end in penalties. Though 2-1 in extra time wouldn't surprise me, and am not sure which way.

For whatever reason, Kane's not on form at this tournament. Hasn't been in an England shirt for a while, playing way too deep (yeah yeah, he's the record England goal scorer...). It needs mixing up, but no way that will happen. So we're in for another immensely frustrating watch.

When Kane plays deep it's only works if he has someone making runs. His passing that opens up defences is almost as good as his finishing.

So yes I agree with he should be playing alongside Watkins.

I did find the punditry a little OTT about how the new system (?) yesterday was more effective. I was a bit pissed but it seemed way off from the match I was watching.

Our first shot on target was the equaliser…

Everyone had such low expectations after the first matches…

Feels wrong to say it but Kane shouldn’t start the next game should be?

Shouldn't have been included in the team.

But as he's the Captain he's a shoo-in to start.

Pick the team and then a captain out of them.

It was a bit OTT after the game. It was a better performance than earlier games, but coming from a low bar. Once we scored i did think we would go on and win the game, but it was a struggle.

They seemed to wax lyrical about Foden and Bellingham, but while they played ok I don’t remember either of them really doing much. I mean we hardly created any chances at all

The Dutch will be a different proposition. They are suspect at the back, but offer a lot more direct attacking threat than most of the other teams do.

It will be interesting to see if we go back to a 4 at the back. Southgate matched the Swiss in terms of formation, but will he go back to the original system?

The Turkey Dutch game looked fast, end to end stuff in places. Can we change up enough to cope with that ? I can see our horseshoe passing round the back getting exploited.

I’d imagine the formation will be dictated by whether Shaw has a whole game in him or not…

The system was exactly the same in reality, Saka playing right wing and Trippier playing left back, not a back 5 at all.

We won’t change… we’ll just slow it down to a walking pace.

I think it sums up the quality of international football, when you look at the club careers of the remaining 4 managers.

That’s kinda what I thought hence the ?. I saw nothing remotely different yet they were waxing lyrical about how much better we looked. Had me confused!

Still, five excellent pens and an interesting match ahead with the Dutch.

With regards to the punditry the other night, it looked to me as if someone had a quiet word and told them not to be negative.

Having spent almost the entire tournament camped outside the opposition's penalty area, passing the ball to each other with no result, here's an idea. Every five minutes, try and put the ball in one of the top corners of the net. Just keep doing it. With practice they might get good at it... Can't be any worse than what they've done so far.

That's a depressing thought.

Agreed. Was clear as day at Spurs with him and Son.

Not sure what Gareth does when he sits in the stands at club games because it clearly isn't watching the matches.

Gut feeling is he'll go whatever happens.

When people are throwing stuff at you that's got to register on some level, unless you're Liz Truss.

I agree. I think he will decide his time is up if the FA doesn't.

I also thought the pundits were way off with their assessment. It was an upturn in performance, but from a very low bar.

I'd love to see some direct pace injected into the forward line but having seen us limp over the line with the same square pegs I don't think it's going to happen.
