Anyone prepared to give the manager the benefit of the doubt yet ? He’s got you this far, handy game next…
It’s a results based business.
It was the equivalent of ManU beating a League 1 team, with a 95th min equaliser being the first shot on target.....I'd expect England to win if there was no coaching staff and the players just figured it out themselves.....It’s a results based business.

Apart from injury we won't change the side, unless Shaw is 100% fit.
Rice was probably the best England player, but not of the match. A few Slovakia players played alot better
No, any respect or time I had for him had evaporated.Rice was probably the best England player, but not of the match. A few Slovakia players played alot better
The guy is a stubborn idiot and we should be out of the competition if there was any justice.
Thought Gallagher was working well to close the defenders down and make life difficult for them, something this team seem unwilling or not instructed to do

England have the players to play the same way, but for some reason they won’t do it. Hardly any sideways or backwards passes
That's down to caoching / manager IMO......... some of us call it Moyes football and you should be very greatfull for it apparently ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
![biglaugh](/inc/images/biglaugh.gif)
Honestly though, how on earth did we get away with that. The worst thing is GS will be sitting there this morning thinking 'ah my lineup worked yet again lets repeat'

I know, what are all these England fans moaning about, they should be grateful for having a team stuffed with attacking talent walking around and passing it backwards and sideways with hardly any efforts on goal...I mean they told us this all season as West Ham fans how lucky we were to have a manager that played the team like that. ![biglaugh](/inc/images/biglaugh.gif)

He has said that he wasn’t ready to go home yet and nor were the team! Could have fooled me with that display.![biglaugh](/inc/images/biglaugh.gif)

The problem with England is they don't have a CM who links defence and attack.
Rice and Mainoo both act like defenders.
Kane, Saka and Foden are attackers.
So you have two separate teams on the pitch who can't string it together.
Man Utd have had same problem for last few years.
Bellingham isn't... but could be??

Rice does this for Arsenal, box to box midfielder, you just need to ask Gareth why he doesn't allow Rice to do this for England.Rice and Mainoo both act like defenders.

We could ask the same for many of the players. Walker looks like he is on a leash, Kane isn't roaming around assisting and Trippier just looks totally out of sorts.tele_lover said:

Bellingham definitely IS but Southgate is playing him wrong. You have a 6 (Rice) who sits in front of the defence,a 10 (Foden/Palmer) who plays behind the striker and an 8 who links the 2,that should be Bellingham Rice and Mainoo both act like defenders.

I felt sorry for Slovakia
Anyone - even those without football knowledge - should be looking and wondering why Southgate is making a sub on the 94th minute of a knockout game in a major tournament. The football was turgid and the subs were as bad.
66 minutes: Palmer on for Trippier
84 minutes: Eze on for Mainoo
94 minutes: Toney on for Foden
The first half should have been enough to show Southgate the system was not working. It was slow, lackluster passing, with absolutely no energy, no plan, no clue. After half time this continued, even after the disallowed goal.
Again he didn't change it.
England have extended their stay but their time is limited as they'll soon get knocked out.

Reading through this thread this morning, can someone explain why there's so much hate for Jordan Pickford?
He showed too much passion performing a routine save apparently. I kinda get it, but he was probably just relieved. It must be soul destroying for him to watch his team score a goal then sit back and let them come at him every god damn game. Yazza54 said:

England created enough chances to have won that 3-1 without extra time, but the players simply aren't doing their bit individually.

We lack arrogance and confidence, successful teams have plenty of this.
For instance the Germans have an arrogance about them, they feel they have won a match before they even leave the dressing room.
I've always thought exactly this as well. Most other countries seem to have a completely different mentality to us as you say.For instance the Germans have an arrogance about them, they feel they have won a match before they even leave the dressing room.
I always liked Stephen Hendry at snooker for that too, and he always believed that he was better than everyone else, and that mindset made him very successful.
