Better to turn round and be honest and say "yeah actually, not really bothered about international footy thanks" than come up with the usual "it's always a great honour to represent my country" and then stroll around like it's a Sunday afternoon park game and you really don't care.

If he was undermined by Steve Holland in front of his teammates and made to look like a mug, then he's got every right to tell them to do one.

White was very proud and happy to be called up, but obviously he's used to working with more professional people at Arsenal.
The coaches at England come across a bit old school teacher.

I'm pretty sure once GS leaves, he will make himself available to play again.

Interesting article in the Independent about the England football team and why they might be slightly less motivated when playing for England than they are for their clubs. You may or may not agree but just blaming Southgate for players being poor is too simple.

She ruins it by saying that it's the Premier League that is to blame then goes on to say it's no coincidence we've not won a tournament since 1966. Doesn't she know when the Premiership (as was) was formed? rolleyes

As I said, 2/3s of Prem players are foreign, so what's she's saying should apply to most countries.

I hope the England players watched Georgia the other night. They illustrated that the whole can be greater than the parts when you have desire and play together as a team. They never stopped playing positive football even when they could have sat back and defended their lead.

The worst thing that could happen tomorrow, IMHO, is for England to go ahead early. If they do they will sit back and withdraw and allow Slovakia to dictate. They need to give a performance that reflects the talent in the team and play positively throughout, not play scared and try to defend a 0-0 or a one goal lead. Kane and the other senior players need to boss the game, be managers on the pitch and take it to the Slovakians.

If they play like that - England 3 Slovakia 0

When did England last do something like that?

I did wonder. In which case I'm glad I didn't miss anything over the last 20+ years since I stopped paying attention, after being bored to tears once too often.

I always believed that England's players donate their match fees to charity because they are payed enough by their clubs and there is the additional marketing value that comes from being an international player.

They've been doing this since 2007 IIRC, to the England Football Foundation charity.

Italy's build-up is similar to England's. Slow, ponderous, no threat, no incisiveness. Backwards, sideways, sideways, sideways, backwards, sideways, etc etc...

If we're lucky enough to get past Slovakia and haven't improved then we'll get beaten by this Swiss team.

How's that?

They're a big name but the 11 on the pitch not doing the business. If we wind up playing the Swiss they could do the same to us.

3-0 tomorrow then we bore the Swiss into submission and we’re in the semis. Gareth gets another 4 years and all is well with the world. Viva Albion!

Germany did well created much more against Denmark than England were able to

Denmark were good value, but I thought rather hanging on tonight. Ref decisions were correct, and the Germans have a lot of power in attack. Defense wise they’re not perfect, in the final 30 mins they were dangerous every time they got up the field.
