I do think there's a discussion to be had though about "new money" clubs. Else the clubs which invested pre PSR are always going to rule the roost. It hasn't ended particularly well for any club who managed to break into the top 4. I'd cite lack of squad depth I guess off the top of my head.

Villa fan here. Haven't heard that idea raised before but it is a big one. Villa owners Wes and Nassef think they have the infrastructure in place to make a real challenge, but as you say, squad depth isn't there and FFP is in the way. Plus, we don't really want to sell anyone. So we'll end up having to do some bizzare thing like swapping midfielders with Chelsea to satisfy a finance rule.

Great news to hear that EtH is staying. It’s the right decision imo and he will make us better this coming season with a consistent team.

clap It was the most sensible and likely option - time will tell but hopefully it'll work out well. I think if we're top 5 at Xmas he'll be kept on.

Just heard that news as well, plus a contract extension. Last season was a disaster but glad he is staying.

Funny to see all the journos constantly tweeting stories that he was sacked, and that another manager was coming in. Seems that they knew sweet FA and just doing stuff for clicks

I wonder if Steinberg who leaked that story just before the FA Cup was doing it on actual Intel, or trying to do bidding for someone.

I think we need a strong start otherwise he'll be under real pressure very early into the season.

I’m ambivalent to this news except I really don’t think we should be awarding a contract extension until Christmas. He’s under contract until next summer so it might cost us £30M for no good reason if he’s having another bad year.

Yep, hope he will have better fortunes this season. There wasn't a upgrade option available, and while it might not have been the most edifying of handling it's probably the best decision based on where we are right now. Need to get Berrada and Ashworth in and start getting the squad sorted asap.

The knives will be out quickly if we have a poor start, though, so he'll be needing to hit the season running.

They will offer him an extension, but you would expect it to have certain stipulations on performances to protect the club if they decide to sack him.

You would expect giving him an extension would show the club and the players that his is our guy and we are all behind him

He's going to have some fun in the press conferences now. They've tried to throw him under the bus before the final and repeatedly afterwards and he's still here. God knows what Steinberg was playing at, but it seems he's a bit of a plum based on some old tweets of his that have surfaced recently so probably just complete bs.

Reports that Juve might be wanting to take Greenwood off our hands as well.

I would have thought Saudi teams would be queuing up to offer him a deal. No fks given regarding his previously alleged scandal.

Hoping for a full on Joe Kinnear from ETH in the next press conference now.

"Which one of you is Jacob Steinberg"
"Me"
"Your a c*** heh!"
Which of you work for the MEN? etc.

Club need to have his back now.

Totally agree. This would be the best thing to do and show the players they’re not in charge any more.

Now to get on with the recruitment as it’s vital.

We better have a good start to the season , or the media will give him even more grief.
I still don’t think he is the right manager for us, and I’ll be surprised if we finish any higher in the league than last season. But I hope he proves me wrong.

I like ETH but I wanted him to go for all the reasons I've already said on the thread. Let's see how the team performs over the forthcoming season and hope to see some progress in league.

If City had hammered you 4-0 he'd have been gone before the final whistle, very very few, if any, dissenting voices

That was the plan, as such, I believe?
