We;ll need a bigger squad with european football. We tried to just do the league on the cheap last year and got caught out with a lack of players. I don't mind Werner as a winger, releases Son, but needs to do better than 2 goals, 3 assists. Johnson got 5 goals 10 assists
Releases Son to do what? If you are suggesting we need to manage Son's time so he doesn't play so many minutes, I 100% agree. If you are suggesting Werner is the one who should be filling that slot then I don't agree. Son is 31, we should be looking to get a player in that will push him hard for that spot and replace him in a year or two, not a temporary stand-in who as you've pointed out only has 2 goals and 3 assists. I'm not sure why as Spurs fans we fall into this same trap time and time again. The fact is he isn't good enough and we should be actively looking to replace him with someone better, not shrug our shoulders and hope he magically gets better. This is how you end up with the likes of Royal, Dier etc at the club for years and years. This is part of the step change that Ange was talking about, we shouldn't accept mediocrity.
Who would you buy? Is spurs an attractive club currently to the top strikers, and would we pay the money?
Otherwise it's just another punt like almost every other club is doing.
i.e. £100m for Grealish instead of buying Kane looks like terrible business for Man City

Same could be said for Johnson, he got so many balls across the 6 yard box that Richie or Son watched from 20 yards away.
And as the season went on, was often the player busting a gut into the box to get on the end of stuff, or getting close. Just needs to up his finishing skills to be the ultimate player I think he can become.Byker28i said:
Yup and don't accuse me of being one accepting Dier. I was saying for some time he needed to go...

There are half a dozen better wingers in the lower PL teams available and that's before even looking further afield. Yes I agree on your point about whether they'd come to Spurs or not but if that's the case, do we just give up and admit Werner is the best we can hope for?Who would you buy? Also this flashing it across the box thing, I've heard this quite a few times, they put the cross in but no one was there. Surely as a winger you look up before putting a cross in? If players aren't in the 6 yard box, either hold the ball up or pass it somewhere else or is that too much common sense?
Also since the by-line cross seems to be what we are going for, I'd be wondering why our forwards are waiting around the 18 yard box for a cross instead of the 6, is it a coaching thing or are the players not doing what they are told?
I'd say wait it out until the window is up to see the state of play on Werner. If Gil and Solomon go, and he becomes the worst option of three after we get another in, i'd say it probably isn't terrible business with the money involved; its certainly raising the bar at the very least. Its no secret we're after another winger too.
If we go into the new season and he's starting 9 out of 10 games then yeah we've got a real problem.

Yeah, about £500k off the wage bill in one swoop there, mainly I think because Ivan was on top money.
Sess though, what a disappointment that is all round.
I'm not entirely sure Spurs were paying Perisic anything. Reports at the time were that he waived his salary in order to facilitate the move to Hajduk Split, and they were paying him a symbolic salary of 1EUR a month. But something could be lost in translation.Sess though, what a disappointment that is all round.

Sess just turned out to be injury prone. Dier will make loan permanent, Millwall were after TangangaSess though, what a disappointment that is all round.
Latest is links with Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri, £26m
Edit: Will we go for Connor Gallagher? Chelsea are asking £50m and need to sort out their cash by the end of June...

The stadium has won more trophies in the last 6 years than the team has won in the last 16 years.![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

I would like Spurs to try for Jean-Philippe Mateta again, proven experience in the premier league. Spurs have tried to sign him previously. He is being linked with a move to PSG
I'd like us to buy Olmo. No idea whether he'd improve the team or results and I don't really care, as he is real quality and I'd be happy to watch him every week.Trash_panda said:
What happened to tanganga, one minute he seemed good then just disappeared
It's easy to look competent at fullback if you don't make any howlers. Good though, is a whole different matter. Played half Millwall's games at CB, so I guess that's his level of we are releasing him?Given all the money spent on coaches and training facilities and success of youth teams, you wonder whether it's possible to train young players to Prem level or whether the ability is simply inherent and it's down to luck whether you pick up a kid at 13 that turns into a star?

I think it's 80% talent and 20% training. You can't turn an average player into a great one with just training alone.Given all the money spent on coaches and training facilities and success of youth teams, you wonder whether it's possible to train young players to Prem level or whether the ability is simply inherent and it's down to luck whether you pick up a kid at 13 that turns into a star?
I also think there is a very healthy dose of luck in who gets given the opportunity. On first look, Kane didn't look like anything special, imagine if he hadn't been given the chance to prove himself.
What I find odd is the amount of youth players who create a lot of noise but then just disappear into obscurity, always find that a bit baffling.
