He was excellent in the inverted role for a good part of last season

Quite why we stopped playing the full back the way we used to is a mystery to me though. As it seemed to work and it was properly exciting football.

Maybe it's a statistics thing.
I think Hendo got old or injured, no reason we couldn’t do that again with an excellent mobile 6

Because other teams sussed us out. They just sat back deep and left no room - we were camped in the opposition half and there was no opportunity to play like we used to. And at that point Trent's USP was negated

Interesting in so much as we've been linked with him on numerous occasions previously.

I must be one of the only ones that doesn't give a hoot if Trent stays or go's.

I doubt Trent will be going anywhere given our position with home grown players.

I don't think our homegrown situation is too bad?

Currently at 14 of 17 allowed non homegrown players in the senior squad and have youngsters on the verge who could be brought in also (Danns). Thiago and Matip coming out has helped things here, as well as with the wage bill.

A new CB could take up a slot, but as we are apparently looking at Yoro (18) and Guehi (HG) that wouldn't be the case and could potentially move on Tsimikas anyway with Gomez ale to cover at LB if required?

I'd like to see us throw a spanner in the works of Utd trying to buy Alvarez from WHU also. I think he'd be a perfect 6 for us, essentially a younger Palinha so a good passer of the ball with top level defensive stats who sits in and breaks up play + he's PL proven.

I'd also like to add, how good has Gakpo looked playing off the LW for Holland? Potential to move Diaz on if a good offer comes in and potentially improve the first XI in the process?

I think Gakpo (and Nunez) were both essentially left sided forwards before we bought them. I'm interested to see how Slot wants them to operate. I think that maybe both struggled unnecessarily with being forced to play elsewhere. But what do I know...

Not particularly bothered if Trent goes - that would assume Slot can't accommodate or fit him in. But he is one of our best players so I expect Slot to find a way to get the best out of him.

I think a new voice, with new ideas will definitely help. As good as supposedly Klopp's reputation was at working with younger players, we never really saw a material improvement in either Trent's positioning, awareness and a general defending in the last 5 years. For me, that's down to Klopp and the coaching staff not really doing enough. The same applies to Nunez, who even after 2 years, again saw no material improvement to his postioning regarding his runs in behind, watching the last line of defence or taking a breath when shooting. In fact Klopp stated on at least one occassion that he's simply "unlucky". That's not the solution.

I really hope Slot and the reputation he brings with developing younger players, particularly that striker at Feyenoord who's stats massively improved once Slot started working with him, is able to work that same magic on these 2 particular players and Cody and Ryan also.

Yeah, that’s great news. I was beginning to fear the worst given the lack of news.

Apparently Souness spoke to him last week on the phone and said Hansen was taking the mick constantly so must be feeling better. Good news. Still not said what it was but perhaps it was his heart. And not a bad stroke, which is what I was fearing.

Can't see Szobbo being their long either, Hungary aren't great.

With 3 points and a -3 goal difference it does look unlikely they'll make the last 16, but you never know. He had a couple of decent moments last night against a very poor Scotland but has done little else in the tournament.

I see Darwin scored again in Uruguay's Copa Americana opener against Panama. That's 4 in his last 2 games now. smile

I think they are trialling 1 for the crossbar, .5 for the post.

Don't say that too loudly - Arsene Wenger will see that and take it to FIFA...

It's all down to his new cornrolls. Given him an aerodynamic edge.
