i am sure lots of work being done behind the scenes on targets
I don't doubt it. You don't earn millions a year sitting on your arse. All in jest.i am sure lots of work being done behind the scenes on targets
Ultimately of course most of the work on signings is done by others now but he will of course still have input. Just not the input Klopp ultimately had.
In town earlier and saw Bobby Firmino had released a book on his time in Liverpool )"Si Senor - My Liverpool Years"). I never buy books full price so just had a quick look at the last few pages. It seems he only left because the club no longer wanted him. He was willing to take a pay cut, sign just for a year if needs be etc (he'd already come towards the end of a 1 year extension, hence the negotiations) but ultimately the club - while initially in negotiations to extend - ended up fobbing his team off. Eventually he got a meeting with Klopp, who ultimately said "I'm not in control of everything at the club". At that point he took the hint and told his team to find him somewhere else. And off to Saudi he went.
As a fan, I’d say you can’t have it both ways… Klopp’s been accused of hanging on to players too long… but it’s hard to be mercenary with a player like Bobby, who had (and still has) such a strong emotional connection with the fans…. He could probably have played until he was 50, ambled round the pitch every now and again, and the fans would still have cheered him ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
As a club, it was probably the right time for Bobby to move on given likely wages to playing time…. We could probably do without paying Bobby £7m (or so) when we have Gakpo and Jota to play in the middle (either advanced or deeper).

Yeah I'd agree with that. Ultimately, the players earn a huge amount of money. He did mention with the signing of Gakpo in the January he knew his days were numbered. Agree on the fan respect for Bobby too but the club don't run on sentiment and can't (even if Klopp sometimes did).
A reminder though that every player has their day, however good they've been for us.

Yep.
Another good example was Mane… a huge number of fans said we should sell Mo and keep Mane…. Which made no logical sense at all… Mo was twice the player Mane was by whatever metric.
But for whatever reason Mane had a stronger emotional connection with the fans![confused](/inc/images/confused.gif)
Ultimately I think Mane told Klopp he wanted to go, too. But yeah, excellent when on form but he certainly had at least as many periods off the boil as Mo did. On song, the Bobby, Mo and Sadio front line was beautiful to watch. Hopefully Slot can help replace with what we now have.Another good example was Mane… a huge number of fans said we should sell Mo and keep Mane…. Another target that we're likely to lose out on to Madrid:
