Starting a business on tenerife?

Hi guys

I have been thinking of setting up a business on tenerife which would be using minibuses and trailers to take downhill mountain bikers up Mount Teide 13,000ft up on which they ride down and the bus driving down and picking them up and taking them up to the top of a different trail and so on

is there anything I need to know about the spanish way of starting a business like this and so on?

just getting a general overview of life there with business and transportation and running minibuses?

Can't help on the advice side of things, but I can tell you it's something I'd love to do.

Have you considered renting bikes to your customers to encourage those who don't wish to take their bike over with them?

Find a good, English speaking Abrogado - there will be bound to be all sorts of bureacracy ( IVA for starters) and it's probably easier to get someone who knows teh rops to do it for you.

Yeah I plan to have bikes for rent but Im just gonna start with a minibus and a trailer to keep it simple!, will I need a visa or anything like that or is that not necessary as its part of the EU?

You will definately need permits and be registered in a small business category, of which there are a huge amount for the self employed, just be careful what you choose as the tax and other liabilities can vary greatly, but as has been said previously go to a good GESTORIA and they will get all your permits for you.

Whatever you do in Spain there is always a licence, if you don't get one you will get nicked for sure, and then stopped from working so better get the licence as fines are heavy.

Also you must use a Spanish registered vehicle, and your trailer will need to be homolgated.
Trailers in Spain have to have a Fischa Technica, with anything over 750kg having to have seperate insurance and be inspected at interval for ITV (MOT).
Just in case you where thinking of taking your own vehicle and trailer over with you.
If you buy a used vehicle, make sure you go to the Gestor with the person you're buying it from, and pay the Gestor to change the paperwork over, otherwise you may end up with a car or van, and all the fines that the previous owner has run up!
You will have to live there for a while, as to buy a Spanish vehicle, you will need to have a Spanish address, a rental agreement and some utility bills. (Unless you already own property there)
A Gestor will also sort out your residencia, and your NIE number.
As said above, speak to a Gestor, not an Abogado.

I was thinking of taking the minibus and trailer over there from the UK and register both onto spanish plates in tenerife.

Im ok with property as I have a second home out there so that isnt a problem! I guess the best thing is to speak to the local gestaro etc and go from there!

then when the economy recovers, ill take the plunge and move out there with the vans having done all the prep/footwork and research into it :-)

the only risk I can see is not having enough customers to have a income and come back to the UK jobless! but at least ill have tried!

Best get saving up for it then!

Not sure about non-mainland ITV's, but here on the mainland, commercial vehicles (vans) which are RHD, are not allowed to change to Spanish registration.

The reason being is one of safety - non-visability at junctions/roundabouts with RHD, being the factor.

If they have windows to the rear of the 'B' pillar, then all is OK.

A minibus will be O.K. then.
Like you say, if you never try, you'll never know.
