I have a Seat Leon Cupra R that I keep in Spain. I recently had an engine remap (up to 310 bhp) and added a Miltek sports exhaust. I notified my current insurance company who decided not to continue cover. Having tried a couple of other insurance commpanies, they are not interested because of the mods. Does anyone know of a Spanish insurance company that may provide cover please?
Thanks - I tried Abbeygate a couple of weeks ago but, although they were very helpful, they said that due the mods they could not help me.
Work was done by Leo Racing who are about five minutes from Malaga airport. Contact number is 952 244 848 or e-mail - rava310@hotmail.com They were recommended by Dimsport in Barcelona who are Spanish agents for Milltek.

Hi,I insure my Corvette through a company called Liberty Seguros, via a broker who I've used for the last 15yrs in Majorca. Neil Rowley Insurance Tel 971720807 ask for Yvonne
Like I said in my first post. You'll have to make an apointment at the ITV station. They'll tell you what paperwork you'll need.
Then you'll have to take some forms to the bank. 3. One for you, one the bank keeps, and one to take back to the ITV station to prove you've paid.
Then you'll get an apointment for an inspection.
If all is well, they'll add the mod onto he bottom of you fischa technica, stamp it, and the enginer signs it.
Just be polite, and patient, and hope the "engineer" isn't a total ar$e!
Same goes for changing wheel and tire sizes, fitting bush bars, and tow bars, in fact anything that isn't standard.
Good luck, and post back how you get on.

Thanks - you did warn me. This gets more difficult by the day. One of the documents that is needed by ITV is proof of insurance which I do not have because of the mods. And the insurance brokers tell me that they can not get insurance until I get the ficha tecnica changed. So this is a recipe for going round in circles! Your original advice about keeping schtum sounds increasingly attractive!
I thought that it might be helpful to provide an update on this saga so that anyone else considering some mods can learn from my unhappy experience.
Having fitted a Miltek sports exhaust and had a Revo remap, I took the honest (but flawed) decision to notify my insurance company. They have insisted that the changes are recorded on my ficha tecnica. But to do this requires certification that the changes accord with EU homologation requirements. After much dialogue with the company that did the fitting, it has become clear that neither modification has EU approval.
I have spoken to Miltek and pointed out that it would have been helpful to have made this disclosure before selling the system. But they are just a deceitful bunch who frankly could not care less.
So I am lumbered. I can either take everything off the vehicle, write off €2,000 of mods and get the benefit of continued insurance. Or I can pretend that I have done so and then just take my chances.
Thanks to those who have provided helpful guidance. This has been a hugely frustrating experience. The only consolation is that, with the mods, the car is huge fun!

Sorry to hear of your whoes!
I wonder how the Guys who rally their cars get on?
We have a classic car rally on 10th 11th and 12th of March over here in Mallorca. There are some seriously moddified competition cars!
Including not so classic hatch's that are clearly not standard.
Where are you in Spain? If there's a car club near you, maybe they'll know a way to get it done. I suspect it'll be finding the right ITV "Engineer" who's not impartial to dare I say it, having his palm crossed with €!
Thanks for the update.

This all sounds really bizarre?! Then again I have head tales of folks getting their cars returned to standard before the ITV and then putting the mods all back on. A neighbour also had trouble with some aftermarket alloys on his merc and it took 2 visits to the ITV station just to sort that out.
If you want to dig further let me know - we have a very good contact based in Benalmadena who understands Spanish law and the maze that is getting an ITV etc. He took me down in Jan to get a new ITV on our Merc and all went well so could explain the issues and book you an appointment if you wanted....

This is an update on where I have got to with my problem.
Having posted a question on Tuning Andulacia I have been referred to a really helpful tuning shop in Alicante. I have also spoken to the Spanish agent in Barcelona who deals on behalf of Miltek and he has also been very constructive. What is clear now is that a recent change in law means that the Spanish authorities now require any modification to the ficha tecnica to be supported by a manufacturer's certificate stating that the part has EU homologation approval. My exhaust does not have that approval so in theory my ficha tecnica can not be changed in line with my insurance company's requirements.
The option exists to find a friendly technician at a testing centre who would be prepared to ignore the requirement. The search is on to find a man who might be capable of being persuaded to exercise some discretion!
More encouragingly I have been reassured that it is unknown for insurance companies to investigate whether vehicles have been modified. So in the event that my search for a friendly technician proves futile, I shall just have to get a new insurance company and keep quiet about the mods. For those who have followed this saga, this what I was advised to do in the first place!
