Hi all,
Just wanted to ask what the drive down from Barcelona to Valencia is like.
Can anyone recommend a good lunch time rest stop or any must see stops.
Decided to take this route as way of a change from last years direct route from Bilbao to Alicante.

Thanks,
Tony.

Bilbao - Alicante a much better route as has already been said Barcelona - Alicante boring and all motorway.

Far more interesting stops for lunch on your original route.

Thats a pity. Enjoyed the direct route drive last year apart from the forest fires.
Outside Temp indicator in the car was showing 57° !!!!
From Santander I've got 2 days to get down to Alicante so thought the longer coastal route would have been a good experience.
Thanks for the feedback,
Tony.

The other very nice drive is to drive from Santander along the North coast towards La Coruna then cut down towards Santiago de Compostella and then inland to Orense and down through Extramadura which is an extremely pretty run through the cork oaks where the best Black foot pig (Jamon Serrano ) is bred and where the majority of the fighting bulls of Spain are bred and grown on as well.

Stay at Salamanca which has one of the oldest Universities in Europe and a very nice City as well with good eating, if you stay at the Parador ensure that you eat out as it would be a wasted trip otherwise.

The next as I say travel down through Extramadura stopping off for some exquisite Jamon in one of the small town tapas bars en - route, down to Seville, onward to Cadiz, then a blast up to Alicante through Marbella,Malaga,Granada,Murcia & on into Alicante.

It's one of the nicest runs that I used to do pretty regularly when living in Galcia
