Hi! Yes, well spotted! It's the road from Soller to Pollensa.

I take it you're in yachting then if you're spending time in MB92...?

Hi

Looking for a bit of help please. Due to escalating cost of hire cars I am seriously looking at buying a 1.9 L diesel Seat Ibiza from a guy in Puerto Pollensa. Does anyone know of a mechanic in the area (Puerto/Pollensa/Alcudia) who could take a quick look at the car? Would prefer English speaking mechanic with email so I can brief/agree payment.

Thanks

Palma airport parking.

Further to my request to find a mechanic to check out my car thought it worth seeing if anyone had suggestions regarding parking close to the airport. The on-site firm (floors 5 & 6) have spaces (I presume due to the recession) and they charge around 900 euro p.a. Park n' Fly is only minutes away (with a courtesy bus service) and they want about 600 euro p.a. but even this is expensive given that a lot of the time I'll be using the car anyway. I have parking at my place but the round taxi journey is 150 euro! Any ideas?

Hello, there is an English mechanic in Pollensa, but as with most business's that deal with ex pats that don't speak Spanish, they'll have your eyes out, and come back later for the sockets!
I can recommend a dealer in Alcudia, who speaks English, and he's a very nice bloke as far as dealers go. He may have something you like.
The Garage is on the right hand side on the Pto. Pollensa to Alcudia road, just as you're coming into Alcudia from Pto. Pollensa, before the roundabout. "Auto's Abona" he's a dealer for those nasty Chevrolet cars made in korea! But he's allways got a good selection of tidy used stuff. His name is "Chisco". tel.971 54 52 36 Mob. 629 415 190 or, 629 630 822 I'm pretty confident he'll look after you if you bought something off him.
I bought a brand new Navarra off him several years ago, when he was the Nissan dealer, and he was a gent.

As for airport parking, I think the park & ride is about as close, and cheap as you'll get.
How many times a year are you going to be going to the airport? I think you need to weigh up what you're going to spend on Taxi's against the cost of P&R.

Regards,
Mick.

Thanks Mick - friend called me from Pollensa tonight and I asked same question re mechanic. He recommended English speaking guy - Mark Owen - spoken to him and he sounded ok ~ hourly charge is 40 euro and quoted between one to two hours for complete check over/report. I will let you know how I get on ~ exchanging emails at the moment.

Tend to get out once a month so around 12 times a year. The annoying thing with the airport or Park & Fly parking is that to get the decent rates you have to take out a six/twelve month contract and half the time your car isn't there! Anyway to Puerto Pollensa by taxi is 75 euro so 150 return x 12. I can get a local guy to come and pick me up but he charges 50 euro per leg.

Make sure you are very clear on everything with Mark beforehand, never, ever give him a free hand to do "what needs doing", insist you get a written report on what he's checked. Remember my previuos comment regarding having your eyes out!
I'll say no more. whistle

I'll be turning up at the end of July, staying in El Toro. If things go to plan, I'm hoping to become resident. Say hello if you spot my black Rush parked up at the marina.

No recent photos, but it looked like this is 2008.

It now has a bonnet scoop, but not much else has changed.

Thanks for posting the picture, Very nice! cool I'm sure we'll hear you coming first. biggrin
I'm about as far as you can get from El Toro, in Alcudia. But I'll keep 'em peeled when I'm down that way. I once saw a nice red Rush in Portals a few years ago.
Sevenesque cars are as rare as hens teeth over here.
You say you'll be parking in the Marina. So I asume you have boat connections?
That's my line of work at the moment.

Good luck with your move. smile

A good friend has just started a business, and I decided I want in on the action. Glass fibre and gel coat repairs, anti-foul and maybe a few other related sidelines. It should be a very welcome change from writing software for a living! I'll just be serving as an apprentice come salesman, but my friend is probably one of the best on the island from what I hear, and charging a very competitive hourly rate at the moment while the new business gets on its feet...

What are you guys doing?

Can we see the numbers? wink Will you be putting it onto Spanish plates? Pictures?

Rothgo, you won't be short of work in that line! In fact, if your good at it, you won't have much time to drive that Rush! biggrin
What am I doing? Been running a Johnson 87 Motor yacht for the last nearly 9 years.
Before that, I worked on propper yachts. That's when I'm not working on my house project of 4 years, sailboat project of 6 years, and Seven project of 3 years.
You can never have too many projects! biggrin
What will you do about registering your Rush? If you become resident, you'll have 6 months to put it on Spanish plates. Otherwise, I'd be wary of parking it in the marina on a regular basis.
