Road Trip to Spain - Where to go and what to do please?
Discussion
Good morning everyone,
My girlfriend and I are planning a road trip to Spain for June and July in the Porsche. We’re getting the ferry to Cherbourg, then heading down to Marseilles for the French Grand Prix. After that we’re driving down to Barcelona and getting the ferry over to Mallorca for a week. We’re then getting the ferry back to Barcelona on a Monday afternoon.
So from Tuesday to Saturday night, we’re in mainland Spain, with no set plans and looking for recommendations. We would quite like to spend a day looking round Barcelona on the Tuesday. Our ferry home is from Santander on Saturday evening.
Any recommendations on what to do and where to go for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday day time please?
We did want to drive down to stay with a friend in Malaga, but we’re not going to have enough time to do that now (the inclusion of the French Grand Prix has pushed back our schedule), as it’s too far to drive in that amount of time.
So what do you recommend we do, or where do you recommend we go? Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Drive on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees, take the N260 and drive from east to west.
A couple of highly recommended excursions:
When you get to Boltana take the A2205 to Alquézar, brilliant road and spend the day in the ancient town of Alquézar. I would highly recommend you eat at the Asedor Zabrin in Boltana.
If you haven’t visited the Monte Perdido National Park that would make a great days stay, you could stay and eat in Torla, spectacular scenery in the Ordesa Canyon and walking to suit all capabilities.
Beyond there you could run out to San Sebastián or drive through the Basque Country.
hth, enjoy your trip it’s an amazing part of the world .... and quiet!

Monday 2nd July at 19:30 ferry arrives in Barcelona (from Mallorca) and we check into hotel, go out for dinner etc.
Tuesday 3rd July explore Barcelona and stay the night.
Wednesday 4th July leave hotel early in the morning and go to the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey (1 hour) then drive on to Boltana (3 hours)
Thursday 5th July leave Boltana and drive down to Alquezar and back up to Torla (3 hours).
Friday 6th July walk the Ordesa Canyon and drive onto San Sebastian in the afternoon (3 hours) - not sure if the timings will work on this!
Saturday 7th July drive to Santander (2 hours) and board ferry at 19:30
All rough rounded down timings for the driving.

Hello @Hurr1cane, I am just researching a route from Santander to Barcelona for a few days excursion over half term with the family, and am counting myself lucky that you have recommended this route.A couple of highly recommended excursions:

Nice. We're looking forward to going. We're staying at the following hotels:Barceló Monasterio de Boltaña

and
Hotel Silken Ordesa

Want to do a tour or hike of the canyon. Thinking of doing a 4x4 tour and have found these companies:

Any other ideas for things to do during the day we're up at Torla?
