hi chaps, currenty planning a trip around europe. Days 1 and 2 will be bilbao and then crossing the border over on the east. I am trying to ascertain exactly how long the driving will take so we know where to stop. We will be driving spiritedly so need to know roughly how long it will take (rather than using google's miles/time as a guide).

here is the route for day 1:

Would that honestly take 9 hours ?

Leave by 6am (ideally 5.30) and it should take 7 1/2 hours. I've taken a very similar route, but starting from San Sebastien, several times.
You'll have the roads to yourself until 9am (apart from the odd farmer).

The was taken near Jaca last summer.

Have fun!

Donostia / San Sebastian is pretty stunning, not too far out of your way to go that route, and Andorra, Tax Free shopping, also close to your route.

could not agree more about san sebastian , stunning and a great day and or night out , always busy and great food and cheap freezing cold wine , miss it at your peril , biarritz is also stunning if you dont mind a 30 minute trip

7pm into the Casco Viejo and take your camera as you walk around drinking and eating "Pinchos" in the very best bars in the whole of Spain.
