Sorry, it is an S-Type, not an X-type..

I was wondering if anybody could help.

My dad has moved to portugal and taken his 2006 S-type and is going through the process of 'matriculation'.

He has to change the headlight units and has been quoted 800 Euros!

Anyone know a cheaper way to do it, or someone who might have a second hand set or something?

Thanks in advance.

You have to go through a garage who sells the headlights that your father needs for his model of car, unless you can buy them from the U.K.(Which you can of course), and then get somebody to fit them in a Garage for the going rate .

I think he has had a look down that avenue, and what with things being more expensive on the UK, it still works out very expensive.

He is after some used units, ideally.

Sorry for the late reply.

Two thoughts, there are 27 countries in the EU and we are the only one that uses RHD vehicles so could your father shop around in Europe for a better deal on the lights. best to stick with the EU and not go to the USA as presumably the lights will require 'E' marks.

Other thought is why go to all the hassle of getting a RHD (presumably) car through the test when there are loads of LHD cars already available. Once again looking to Europe on the www.mobile.de website (a german version of Autotrader, there are other sites available) there are 200 Jaguar S-Types newer than 2006 and the cheapest is EUR 7,600 (approx GBP 6322), how much is the conversion going to cost. Would it be cheaper in the long run to sell the current car and buy a LHD example?

You won't get any argument from me, but he already has the car over there, so it is too late for that line of thought.

it's not like he could sell it now..
