Always a bit of a long shot, but does anybody know this car? There's a good chance I'll be buying it over the weekend, and if there's anything to look for that needed fixing I'd love to know.

Just the standard Evora things.

Check the A pillar trims (external) are firmly fixed without a big gap between the trim and the glass
Check door locks work ok
Check aux belt and plugs have been done
Look out for suspension knocks (they can eat bushes)
Check sail panel (above engine hatch) isn't cracked
Check front bumper fit
Check headlights for peeling lacquer
Check sidelights and rear lights for dead LED's

I'm sure others will come up with more

Check it’s had new clutch at some point. If it hasn’t, I’d assume it would need one very soon, and that’s a good few thousand.

Aux belt as previously said, as that can cause a right mess if it fails.

Check age/condition of tyres. When discs and pads last changed.

Check if it’s had regular services, and most importantly a recent one. Mainly thinking ahead to resale.

Boot struts are prone to failing, so check boot opens and stays open! It hurts it it falls on your head…

It’s had an upgraded stereo fitted so that’s good as the factory one is dated.

Check nothing is falling apart (as per any lotus). Door cards come loose, front seats can jiggle a bit etc

Get a warranty with it

Seems a fair price though

Early cars were set up with aggressive geo tyre setup. Great handling, but can eat tyres. You can have a more neutral setup which will save on tyre setup. Check across width of all tyres for wear, especially inner edge. With all our potholes, tracking can also be knocked out. My Pirelli rear tyre got through around 4-5mm thread in 2k miles, & I hadn't been driving hard. Chord was exposed on inner edge. You really had to be under the car to see it.

Check if car has been left standing, my battery failed 23 hours after collecting from dealer, probably as they didn't use chargers well. If battery fails, it may knock out certain factory settings.

Wasn't there a gear linkage/cables upgrade around 2012 which helps gear change?, see if it's been done by previous owners. It's a common upgrade.

Aircon, early cars pumps (I think) were situated in engine bay just behind the rear seats, but no access via bulkhead. High labour to remove & replace (£1K I believe around 7 years ago). I was told by my Dealer that 2012/13 cars had an bulkhead access panel added as the pump is difficult to get to. My car had been standing for a few months. Check if pump has been replaced at some point/recently for more peace of mind.

Is Dealer warranty their own or a 3rd party/insurance one? The 3rd party ones are usually full of exclusions, especially on wear & tear, & may only cost Dealers £20 or so (from what they've said to me), your level of cover is correspondingly limited. You end up paying for a lot of items. It's better than nothing, but be aware about them.
My Evora SC had all 3 packs. I got a warranty for £750 (can't remember who by, sorry) after the dealer warranty ran out. It was the most comprehensive I could find, BUT even then, still wouldn't cover the rear parking camera & it's electrics! I usually look at Warrantywise warranty (Orange colour website, nothing to do with me, I've just had one in the past) for easy seen options & what a more comprehensive warranty costs. They seem to be about £500-600 for more mainstream cars I had, but they can/do boost your cover up to next level. They include for far more items, incl wear & tear.

Has it had any software upgrades?

Lotus cars may have a printout summary of what work has been done & any fault codes. My car at 4 years old did (but was supplied by a Lotus dealer).

Enjoy your car, you'll never tire of looking in the wing mirror & seeing those haunches/curves over the rear wheel!

I went to test drive this car a few weeks back.

Few things I noted:

  • Its got some PPF an its damaged in some places
  • The surround around the radio unit is hanging off and loose
  • One wheel is kerbed
  • Reversing camera doesnt work
  • Didn't like going into 3rd and the shifter was very vague and didn't return to center
Biggest issue I noticed was the clutch engagement from standstill, it made a god awful racket and sounded like something metal was spinning and clonking in the transmission. Not sure if this was a normal Evora thing though as the clutch wasn't slipping and engaged fine.

Apart from that it drove great and there were no clunks or noises from the suspension.

Ohh thanks for the info! That's exactly the sort of thing I was hoping someone might know. I'm still going to go and see it, but if it's still got clutch noises that'll be a pass, or they can get the engine out and fix it.

I've driven a couple and not noticed anything before. However my hearing is shocking.

I destroyed a thrust bearing last year in my car, so that's the kind of "baseline" of noise that'd put me off. smile
