Evora auto box
Discussion
Evora S IPS owned since November and no regrets whatsoever about going auto. I love it.
Drive is relaxed and as eco friendly as a supercharged 3.5 can get. Sport mode changes things completely and the car comes alive. I've found sport auto amazingly intuitive - shift points vary depending on throttle position and it's really very good. Paddle shift is slower than the 400 but good enough once used to it and gives a decent sense of involvement.
If you really want to be throwing it round a short circuit and going up and down through the gears non-stop then go manual - but if that's the case you'd probably be better off with an exige than an evora. I also have a caterham and however good the evora is it's just too big and too competent for throwing around tight country lanes.
Edited to add: IPS costs should be much lower... No £3k clutch replacements and for the 'S' the manual road tax is £500 whereas auto is only £300.

I have a 410 sport with the auto box.
The changes arent as quick as some of the more expensive supercars. However when you are driving the car hard on a twisty backwater it does the job very well indeed and puts a big smile on my face.. I havent been on a track with it yet though.I agree with Paranoid android on the downshifts.

I always was happy with the IPS system. I had the TPU tuned a bit, but it was a robust piece of kit.
I was told that some of the early models did have a habit of potentially failing at 40k+ and needed an expensive overall, but that was not something I encountered
Not as quick as other systems - I have a few - but robust - even if a bit dumb

Just be aware that the IPS gearbox in the Evora NA and Evora S (2009 to 2014) is quite a bit slower than the revised gearbox fitted to the Evora 400 (2014 and onward).
Changes for the older Evora are about 1.4seconds, down to 0.4seconds in the newer models - it's not just a software update either, while both boxes are fundamentally the same, it is a hardware change that apparently can't be retrofitted.
It's not the end of the world, but worth bearing in mind.

Ok thanks for the info the Auto sounds right up my street I’m currently driving a TVR Griffith and as
I’m getting on a bit and the old knees are fooked currently looking at my options for a change of car .
I also had a couple of Griff’s years back (4.0 and 5.0), very fond memories of them but the Evora is in a different league. I’m getting on a bit and the old knees are fooked currently looking at my options for a change of car .
What model Evora are you considering?

There's a thread on TLF about the 0.4s Vs 1.4s paddle-to-shift time. While the 400 is definitely quicker at 0.4s, the S1 isn't as slow as 1.4s but it helped to sell the new car.
Shift speed is adaptive... 'D' is slow and smooth and could well be where they got 1.4s from but in sport and going for it it's much quicker. One other thing.. pretty much every IPS review was on the first auto cars and by all accounts they were poor. There were 4(?) software updates after release which sorted it - too late for the newspapers though.
