Hi

had the windscreen fail on the motorway last night when it was hit by something large and hard. Made a hell of a bang..

going to use autoglass to repair it but anyone got any experience, issues etc with replacing the glass on these. Guess it is pretty straight forwards but a little worried about availability...

cheers

Generally the risks are the usual of leaking and damage to trim. I had mine done at the factory when I worked there by a mobile guy that the service department use who has done loads of them. Might be worth having a chat with Roly if you're local to the factory.

Sadly mine has now got a big fat hole in it courtesy of a passing dump truck, and going back to the factory is no longer particularly convenient!

Not knocking Autoglass but for my high-end cars I usually use Paul from Glasstec. More pricy, but at least you know what you are getting...

Ambitious?! And the rest. They quoted me £470 for a BMW E36 windscreen after discounting it from £520. Another national windscreen chain quoted £180 and charged me £130! Autoglass must be making squillions!!!

They are not making anything at the moment as we can't get the screen surrounds out of Lotus....result of which is car has been off the road for 2 weeks with at least another week to go. On the plus side I have now installed a Genesis Profile amp in the boot, Focal components up front and a JL Audio sub next to the rear seats. Can't drive anywhere but the music is epic.

Replacement of the windscreen is held up because they can't get a surround pack??

Erm, ok.

You don't have to use a supplier if you're not convinced they're trying hard enough.

Did you install the sub/amp yourself? I'd be interested to hear more smile

yes mate. The amp goes in the boot. There is a removeable aluminium panel between the boot and the engine that I removed and put mounts on before putting it back. this is close to the battery to power and ground are easy. For the wiring it all passes down the right hand side under the sill cover. The sub goes behind the drivers seat in the rear passengers arm rest cover. There is a fair amount of space here, 0.5cuft should be easy to achieve. It is all fairly doable although removeing some of the panels is a bit fiddly. The front speakers and cross overs are a direct replacement although I have stiffened up the front mounts (carbon wrapped) and added dynomatt (lt weight version). The tweeters supplied by focal are a little bigger but nothing a trim knife can't take care of.

will send photos if interested.

cheers

Can you post some photos please, interested to see it as I'm fed up with the Alpine, not impressed with that set up at all.

How difficult is it all to change out? I've been fancying a better system for a while now but scared to start pulling bits off the car hehe

Which sub/amp/speakers did you fit?

Hi Justin

I will get some photos loaded but definitely one of the more difficult installs I have done (harder than my Eruopa for instance). The problam was building the sub box where the original sub is mounted as there is no proper enclosure there.

I left the 930 head unit, put Focal components in the doors. The cross over fits in the original place, the 165mm voice cones go in the original place but I did stiffen up the mounts and use some dynomatt in the door and on the mounts. The Focal tweeters are bigger and hence you have to cut the dash. A sharp knife does it but it is a bit scary to start.

In the boot I put a 500w genesis amp that I have had for a few years and I love. For a sub I used a JL Audio 8" unit.

I have always used Focals for cross over as I love the rich sound. First time I have used a JL Sub and to tell the truth I am very impressed. Gives plenty of deep base without it being obvious that it is a sub i.e. sounds well balanced with the Focals.

I only had it running fully last night but first impressions are it sounds epic, best one I have done so chuffed with all the hard work.

cheers

Thanks Christian.

Cutting the dash does not sound like something I want to be doing.

Did your car have the tech Pack? I thought the sub already had an amp? I was really hoping I could just swap the amp and sub, straight change over

Hi Justin

no tech pack so not sure is included with this kit. You will get most of the gain by fitting decent components up front. The cutting of the dash is pretty easy with a sharp knife, just a little daunting....

will try and get the photos in this week.

cheers
