Considering Evora again, a few questions...
Discussion
I am currently considering selling my 2010 Porsche Boxster S and would love a red evora. I wanted to buy one last year but got put off by being told it probably wouldn't fit into my garage. I have managed to get a 996 C4S 911 in it and 987 Boxsters. Are evoras wider than them??? Everyone seems to love there evoras on here, are they really that good? How many warranty issues have people had and if I buy one out of warranty I am going to get expensive problems, my nearest dealer is about 60 miles from me in Leeds so don't really want to be continually having to trek up north collecting big bills. Any advice appreciated.
My 2p..
The Evora won EVO Car of the Year 2009, awards don't get much higher than that. I have had mine three years now and its the longest I ever kept a car, its that good. Its a great all rounder. A Lot of other owners feel the same. One owner on the LotusForums is about to get his 4th Evora delivered. That says a lot.
Mine fits in a single garage, its tight getting it in but it fits. You'll need to google the actual dimensions. On the travel questions, yes it is a pain getting one with a lot of problems. My understanding is now almost all of these niggles have been ironed out in the used cars, and simply aren't there on the new cars so its win win.. I had quite a few issues with mine initially but its been faultless in the past year.
As for comparing it to a Boxster, well I think only you can do that. The Boxster will be better built for sure, but personally I find them a little bland. I have people asking questions, taking pictures of mine all the time, Boxsters tend to blend into the background. Depends what you want from your car. IMO a sports car should feel special/unique which the Evora does in buckets.
Have a quick read of my thread for ideas of costs etc (its been updated a few times throughout it ).

I've just swapped a 911 for an Evora and it fits into the same garage space no problem. The Evora is slightly shorter and possibly narrower at the doors but you have to watch the mirrors and rear wheel arches. Too early for me to give you any meaningful info on reliability etc. but I'm not expecting anything much different to the 911. I have an IPS and I'm surprised how good it is. It's not very sophisticated but seems to really suit the car.
18 months in nothing fallen off, nothing broken, Just a set of rear tyres, and this set look like they will do 9-10K

Had our Ex-Lotus management Evora since February this year. In that time it's done 4k miles and has needed;
Replacement seat runner for drivers seat, faulty on delivery - replaced under warranty
"Consideration only" for an IPS gearbox issue. Drive was lost from the box and the car ignition had to be recycled on a number of occasions to force a re-set. After doing this the car performed OK. This issue has arisen twice since we took delivery.
Replacement radiator following coolant loss - replaced under warranty.
It's been a pleasure dealing with Chris Neil's over the issues as it just gets sorted with no questions asked, I can't say it's always been that way with Porsche...

Well my Boxster was sold to the trade today who have put a huge mark up on it, (I cannot them see them getting anywhere near what they have put it up at) anyway I bought it at a good price back in November so haven't done too badly and haven't had to put up with any timewasters so fairly happy.
Anyway, do you think it is a must to have a warranty in place on the evoras??? Some of the older ones are now going to be over 3 years old.

Couple of things, the first is that to purchase a warranty will probably cost around £1,000 per annum which to me is quite a lot of dosh, these cars a robust Woza points out he has taken his to Le Man and the ringAnyway, do you think it is a must to have a warranty in place on the evoras??? Treat your self to the "Lotus Evora The Making of a Modern Icon DVD" you will see the effort that went behind the development of the car, Lotus know people will take these cars on track, the Evora is a robust vehicle I wouldn't worry to much and if you buy from a dealer you normally get a years warranty you can also ask for an engine print out this shows how many revs and for how long or if the car has been over revved. If you havent done so yet have a look at Seloc tech wiki http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Category:Lotus_Evora
IMO warranties are mostly an utter waste of time. We bought our Boxster with a 'full on 5 star warranty'. What it DOESN'T cover is 1000 times more than it does cover! We had a small oil leak on the engine and even this wasn't covered. Biggest con going.
Apart from minor things, which you'd get with any car, the Evora has been pretty reliable from what I have seen and read (which is A LOT).

Well, I've done almost 27k in mine now and the only issue I've had (which has been very annoying) is a repeating problem with the lambda sensors. Looks to be fixed now finally, but other than that it has run perfectly.
Remember, it is a Toyota Camry engine - should be rock solid. No other issues with the other parts that are worth mentioning.

So can you share what the cost was?
I don't have the figures, as the warranty company covered it. I can say that it was a massive job as the water pump is quite inaccessible. It was probably the first time anybody has replaced the water pump on an Evora, and the Lotus book time for the job was wildly optimistic. It took the dealer over 19 hours to do the job, but now they know what they're doing, the reckon it could be done in more like 12. The Lotus book figure was something like 2.5 hours! Apparently they're going to revise that upwards!Great news...hope you enjoy driving it...would love to hear how you think it compares to your Boxster....what generation was your Boxster?
There are going to be areas where the Porsche is a more complete package with regard to trim etc, but hopefully the driving dynamics will shine through with the Evora.
