911 owner testing an Evora
Discussion
Chaps - Tomorrow I am off to B+C to take an Evora S out for a drive.... I've been tempted for a while as my 993 isn't the most comfortable car on long, cross-continental blats (as in 800 miles a day). The 996 doesn't do it for me at all, and the 997 is just too composed for my liking, so I'm going to give an Evora S a go.....
I really hope I like it!!
Will let you know tomorrow!!

Having a 911 (964) when I had the Evora I can definitely see where you are coming from, some of the trips I did in the Evora I would not even contemplate in the 964.
The Lotus, being more modern is a lot better a drive and can easily handle a continental jaunt (we went down to Florence in ours for a holiday).
Don't know whether you want a 2+2 or 2+0 but we managed to fit 2 decent holdall's in the boot and another 2 in the back (we have 2+0) for our long jaunts.

ok - I drove a 2011 Evora S, and an Exige series 2 S.
The Exige was amazing, wonderful, loved it. Massively fast, REALLY composed on greasy roads - awesome. Not for me though, as it's too basic for what I want to use it for. As a track toy and pure weekender it would be a total no-brainer.
The Evora was also cracking. Very different to the Exige, the power felt almost elastic, like a rocket-ship, whereas the exige is like a bullet. TBH I struggled with the gearchange from 2nd to 3rd, and the carpet was coming away by the throttle, which dulled the experience somewhat. You can cover the ground very fast in one though..!! This drive convinced me that I'd need a 2012 car for the better exhaust sound and better built interior.
Assuming I can find one in the right spec and colour I might well go ahead and buy one!! Went to Scott Walkers afterwards to look at the green one - amazing!! I would have bought it, but was 30 mins too late!!!! So I'm on the lookout for a premium-spec 2012 S in an interesting colour (not grey or dark silver)...

I bought a 2011 car...and the gearchange was poor...got the dealer to change the linkage to 2012 spec and then get it correctly adjusted...its fine now....otherwise a superb car, other than me not bothering to check the car properly so missed it had missed a service (not a big deal really..but) and the tyres were illegal....assumed the dealer would look after its demonstrators a bit better...won`t be buying from them again (very short term mentality)....near Stansted....and I will not be making that mistake again!
Used to have a 111R SC....great hooning and trackday car, but not so good on longer journey`s..whence the Evora, which is different but just as rewarding/brilliant to drive.

I too have come from 3 Elise's and 2 Exige's to a NA Evora and agree although not quite as 'hardcore' as the Elise/Exige but has that 'Lotus DNA' and is so much more useable!
Downside, having owned a Boxster S nowhere near as well built so prone to mainly small problems and in my experience the dealerships aren't the greatest for customer service which can take the shine off ownership- that said I'm on my 5th Lotus a gluten for punishment I am!
Although this may be my last if the next few weeks/months continue like the first couple of months, fingers crossed it won't I love the car.

I bought my Evora from JCT600 in Leeds 6 months ago, all I can say is they fully manage the Customer expectation and their sevice and attention to detail is second to none! I live in London, it's well worth the 400 mile round trip to have had some niggly warranty work sorted earlier in the month + fitment of new rears and sports exhaust system.
Mo hidden extras and the car was returned beautifully presented inside and out.

What you will tend to find having been in the trade for over 20 years now is that certain Lotus dealers are enthusiasts and others are attached to large PLC motor groups. They both have their merits as the small dealers are more knowledgeable petrol heads and the larger ones have better customer service. I suppose it's whatever suits you ?
I am also looking at an Evora to replace my Cerbera and it is interesting to see the difference in pricing across the country also for the used cars .
I might have to wait a little longer as the S models don't seem to be near to 30 k as I would like !

Very sorry, it was me that bought the green Evora from Scott!! I too was looking for the right car for a while, so I wish you well in your search. The Exige was amazing, wonderful, loved it. Congratulations! I spent quite a while considering that very motor, although I never went to see it, looked superb in the pics and spec. Hope you enjoy it. The Evora S is a stunning car. I drove one at Bell and Colvill in November and absolutely loved it. I just thought I'd post in response to the comment above on customer service; I've always received fantastic service at Bell and Colvill, having dealt with them regularly since 2005 with my Elise S2 111S and currently with my 2-Eleven. I'd certainly recommend B&C to the OP if he's looking at buying an Evora S.
