Evora 2+2 IPS deposit paid
Discussion
Very pleased to say that I've just put a deposit down on the Grey Ex-Lotus management Evora at Christopher Neil's. One of these has been in my thoughts for a few years ever since I drove CN's blue demonstrator a few years ago when they originally came out. We're part-exing a manual Cayman S against it and after a test drive earlier today all my initial concerns have been alleviated. I was massively impressed that there was not a rattle or squeak in the cabin, that the damping was as I remembered it...truly fantastic and it steered...well...like a Lotus should. The steering wheel has none of the flex that some Elise wheels have and due to the fact the car has the IPS box, my feelings on remembering the flex of the manual gear lever aren't an issue. OK, so the box isn't as quick as your modern day dual clutch boxes, but it's got character, especially on the downshift in sport mode where it throttle blips, accompanied by a suitable noise from the sports exhaust. As it's ex-Lotus management it's got all the packs available at the time plus some other bit's like heated seats, rear camera etc.
Really looking forward to picking it up, hopefully the latter part of next week.

Thanks gents, will post up my thoughts when I get it and as you say spend a bit more time behind the wheel. It does look superb with the paprika interior contrasting with the grey exterior. It's got none of the gaudiness of the Porsche red interior, where you get a red steering wheel also...!! The car in the picture above looks fantastic! Especially with the graphite wheels...looks like these have changed at some point. I once asked Lotus to change a silver set of wheels on a white Elise R to a black set that they had on a yellow car. It made such a difference and I suspect maybe the same has happened here. Would love a hi-res picture of the image posted above if at all possible? I was thinking that the wheels might look good painted so the image gives me food for thought. I have to say with the job that I do I've been lucky to get behind the wheels of some great cars including some of stuttgart's finest, but for a while I've not had my heart strings pulled by a car. It's amazing to me that so quickly this Evora has got under my skin and after such a brief test drive. Really looking forward to picking it up. Thankfully the weather looks like it might be changing for the better next week do I might get some nice days to enjoy it.

Congratulations! Good to see the used Evora shifting more now, keep us posted on how you get on.
Definatley suits the darker wheels better IMO. There is a buyers guide coming up in the next issue of EVO aswell.
Agreed. The car definitely deserves a wider following I believe. I might well have the wheel colour changed at some point but for now just looking forward to picking it up! Definatley suits the darker wheels better IMO. There is a buyers guide coming up in the next issue of EVO aswell.

Great news...a convert from Porsche!
What's a TCU....Yorkshire for an ECU....seriously, what is one?
Apart from the ECU the Evora IPS also has an TCU (Transmission Control Unit) for the paddle shift gearbox. What's a TCU....Yorkshire for an ECU....seriously, what is one?
Due to lots of development and improvements in the IPS gearbox it's very much advised to update to the latest TCU version.
I think it's the perfect car for me.
Picked it up yesterday afternoon but due to family commitments and because I wanted to watch El Classico I didn't get to drive it much. I did though get time to take my 3 year old son and 10 year old daughter out in it...both at the same time!
As soon as I left Chris Neil's entrance yesterday afternoon all that wonderful feedback and feel was there. Having just dropped off the Cayman S it was easy to compare the ride quality of both cars....to be honest they don't. The Evora is on a different planet, it's so supple that it's almost like it's riding on a magic carpet. Admittedly the Cayman was on 19" wheels without PASM dampers (which if specced in their comfort setting will smooth out some of the jarring/crashiness that you can get on our wonderful roads), but even so the difference is like chalk and cheese. I honestly can't believe how good it rides. Probably it's greatest asset. OK it's not as quick as the Cayman S but to be honest that matters not, it's quick enough with the Lotus sports exhaust option making all the right music on downshifts in sports manual mode. Yes, the torque convertor auto isn't the last word in shifting quality, not being as quick as your modern day DSG/DCT/PDK gearboxes but it's got character when you're pressing on and (after I'd stared at it on my drive admiring it for sometime) like this morning on the way to the office in "D" it shifts nicely and suits the grown up nature of the car. The cabin is quiet, unlike the Cayman that makes lot's of roadnoise and messes with my tinnitus, and the Alpine stereo unlike some previous Lotus efforts is all you need...it might take some time to get used to it's functionality though! The car is beguiling and engaging at normal road speeds and feels special in a way that the Cayman never did/does.
Only a minor gripe is that the drivers (otherwise excellent) Recaro seat has a little play in it that I hadn't noticed on the test drive. I was wondering if any other owners are experiencing the same and what if anything they've done about it? I looked at the seat runners and there's nothing obvious there.
So based on my limited experience with the car, so far I'm scoring it a 9.5/10. If the seat didn't have that tiny bit of play in it, it would be 10/10 but hey it's probably an excuse to take it back and have them take a look at it.
At the risk of sounding like I'm trying to teach Grannie to suck eggs...Lotus, if they aren't already, should be immensely proud of their achievements with this car. It's a great great car and with engine and gearbox sourced from Toyota, sprinkled with Lotus magic, I expect it to be more reliable than a Porsche too...it deserves a wider audience and I'll be doing my bit to spread the gospel.
All the best
Very very happy from Manchester aged 42 and a 1/2.

Great to hear, now get some pics up!
The Evora really is a great all rounder. I ordered mine new, and 3 years on I'm struggling to find something to replace it with.
On the Recaros, there should be no play at all, so something isn't right. Get your dealer to have a look.
Also, if it doesn't already, get a decat on
Enjoy!

Thanks Justin, was it your goodself that provided input into the Evo buyers guide this month? Can there be two Justin's in the UK with Chrome Orange Evora's?
Here's some pictures of the car, as it is now...these certainly don't do the car justice, much better to look at the image posted up previously by Andy!
At Chris Neils with their new Exige V6 demo. in the background
I quite like the contrasting silver wheels but also really like them in graphite, what do we think?
Here's a pic of the Exige V6 aswell.
