Rotator cuff injury...........advice required please.
Discussion
Ok,
For the last couple of months Mrs WR has suffered very bad pain in her right shoulder causing loss of sleep etc.
She has been to see a specialist today, who has booked her in for some physio, given her a course of strong painkillers and booked her in for an MRI scan in a couple of weeks.
Googling the symptoms it seems like it MAY possibly be a Rotator cuff injury, possibly involving surgery, where she may end up off work for several weeks, and have to use a sling......(Worse case senario)......(She is 49 btw.)
Have any PH'ers had this op or know anyone who has had it?

Thanks in anticipation...

Mrs 01 was in the same position recently, unable to sleep or forward elevate the arm at all.
The first registrar she saw was convinced surgery was the way to go, she resigned herself to that and accepted his judgement. I've had a few Rotator Cuff tears, along with AC joint separation / shoulder subluxation, thanks to the martial arts. Each time I've done it the physios have warned me away from surgery and each time I've rehabilitated using mobility exercises.
Accordingly I persuaded her to go back to the hospital but to request to see the consultant. Consultant agreed that surgery had been recommended a bit prematurely as no scan had been done so ordered a an MRI. We got a call from him last week telling her to take herself off the surgery list as although there is a a fair bit of damage it's not enough to warrant surgery and that she'd be better off with physio.
In the interim she has been to see my, private, physio and has been doing some of the movements he recommended. Within a fortnight of starting she is now able to lift her arm up to shoulder height and is sleeping through the night.
My point in all this is that your wife should wait until the MRI before resigning herself to surgery. Also, if non surgical is the way to go then it's worth the initial discomfort experienced with moving the shoulder as she should see good results within a reasonable timeframe.
