Eating before you sleep...
Discussion
a bad habit i have is eating before i sleep - well snacking.
a mug of milk, biccies or a sandwich etc maybe a bowl of cereal that kinda thing
is it bad for you to do this straight before bed? i've tried quitting but it doesnt help going through the kitchen on your way to bed!
I'm trying to lose the weight. i've got my daytime diet sorted. still having a few probs getting more sports put in the lifestyle though.

Regardless of whether or not your body processes food at different speeds whether awake or asleep, when I was losing weight I found a very important difference. Whereas it was difficult being hungry during the day, going to bed peckish and having an empty stomach overnight was pretty easy. This meant I could space out the limited amount of food I was eating to cover my waking hours better, which in turn made it easier to stick to.

There is that... if I go to bed hungry, I wake up really, really hungry... which is why I snack before bed. I also found getting addicted to a computer game meant you didn't eat when the rest of the country was. However, many a time of late have I been caught spawning in a hot spot in BF2 mid-cake and just finishing the cake before bothering, resulting in me shouting, "OI, YOU BASTIDS! I WAS EATING!" because they can clearly see that my character is just standing in the middle of a battlefield doing nothing.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean.
Snag is, I don't really have a solution beyond "don't play so late". It's probably bad for us to play so late as the adrenaline is flowing before you hit the sack so sleep must be pretty poor quality.

Very simply, if your not putting on weight and you still feel healthy then no its not bad for you. Life is too short to worry about not eating after a certain time, just enjoy it you cant take it with you!If your trying to lose weight then biccies/cake etc isn't going to help, but you already know that. Whether its worse to eat them late at night is anyone's guess.
I found eating like an absolute pig early in the day made me less hungry at night. e.g. if my daily intake was 2500 cals then I'd eat 1250 at brekkie, 750 at lunch and 500 at dinner. After a breakfast that size I wasn't eating lunch till mid afternoon, then only needed a tiny dinner in the evening.

That's pretty much what I found, except it was probably about 1000/1000/500 in my case.Mr Will said:

I didn't think it would work when I first heard it, as I hated eating early in the day and used to really pig out when I got home.I was proven wrong. Eating a huge breakfast was a challenge, and it meant I had no real urge to eat lunch. Almost forcing lunch down mid afternoon then meant I was pretty much sick of the sight of food by the time I got home.
Supposedly it helps weight loss too as mentioned above, as your body has the rest of the day to burn off the biggest meal. Again I'd question that, I've never really lost weight but I'm not putting it on any more, so it may have benefits.
see i never eat breakfast - wake up straight to work. have a cup-a-soup at around 11 then a shake at 2 and another at 4ish. get home cup of tea and maybe toast
then a meal at 7/8
the shakes i have are those slim-fast kinda thing i find them really helpful as they really do take alot of the pang out. topped with that 1 litre of water during the working hours
but activity wise i'm awful. i feel tired from bad sleeping patterns and physical activity at the momment is goalkeeping for an hr on tuesday nights. hopefully with better weather i can get the bike out
then a meal at 7/8

The routine I switched to was large breakfast at about 9 which would last me until lunch at 1:30. I'd have a descent sized lunch and would find that would do me until the evening when I'd normally have a small dinner at about 7. I'd be starting to get hungry by bed time, but would ignore it and go to sleep, waking up in the morning hungry and ready for breakfast again.then a meal at 7/8

I didn't particularly watch what I ate, just the quantities and did very little exercise except walking about a bit more but dropped ~20% of my bodyweight (about 4 stone) in under a year.
yeah thats about the weight i would ideally like to drop. got a wedding in july so ideally before that! i'll probably get in 2 before that if i dont wander and really give it a go.
like tonight - going cinema with the lads - love my salted popcorn! they're going to some chicken place after no doubt!
chips.

Portion size was the answer for me. You can knock 25% of the calories off any food by just having 25% less of it.like tonight - going cinema with the lads - love my salted popcorn! they're going to some chicken place after no doubt!
chips. So small popcorn rather than large, have the chicken but share chips with a mate, that sort of thing. You can still do exactly what you used to without having to miss out, but cut down the calories massively.

ks, but I read that your digestive system 'sleeps' when you do so if you decide to eat late it may be better to consume easily digestible food.
