Can I have a hearing test without being sold a hearing aid?

I am interested in whether my hearing is any good. I've been going to loud clubs etc for years and after I lost my hearing for about 3 days a while ago want to see what I've got left and hopefully protect what remains. Is there any way of having a hearing test on the high street? I know specsavers do them, but from the website, it seems that it's an opportunity for them to sell you a hearing aid as it feature lots of old people smiling and laughing on their ads. Where can I go for a test? I don't mind paying for it. Is this a GP only thing?

I got one as part of my work medical (through Bupa) and my offshore one (through some Norwegian doctor) so GPs definatley do it - maybe worth giving a Bupa clinic a ring and seeing what they say? Even if you go to Specsavers to get it done, why not just say no to the hearing aid?

It doesn't take long, all they do is sit you in a booth and play a load of frequencies left and right and you click a button if you hear them.

Your GP will give you a quick test and if he/she thinks there maybe something wrong he/she'll book you in for a proper test. I even ended up with a scan as my left ear is so poor but all they could say is my left ear is far worse than my right ear but there's nothing wrong (that they can find anyway).

We get ours every couple of years through work (on site) - work in a noisy factory. Currently 'Specsavers' hearing dept do the tests.
Not sure how much a test would be otherwise - £20 would cover it.
