Got a cold. Do you blow your nose?

When one gets a cold, with a freely-running nose, should one blow one's nose, or simply dab at the leak to absorb mucus?

Normally with a cold I've blown my nose regularly and enthusiastically but I was told once that this exacerbates the production of mucus and makes the whole thing worse. So this time I'm trying dabbing instead.

Am I potty?

I normally take Nurofen Cold & Flu as that dries me up pretty quickly.

I never blow my nose but not because of anything scientific. If I try I usually end up just about bursting my eardrums

I tried dabbing so far but it didn't seem to make much difference. Nose is still red and runny.
